Unbearably sad
All of us have made mistakes that we wish we had had a chance to correct, but the finality of the loss here is terribly sad. This is a beautifully crafted story of the sometimes devastating consequences of an error in judgment that in most cases would have had only minor consequences.

All these selfish women who drop
their panties to the floor with someone they claim not to like, just because the husband has to work or to travel or doesn't anticipate their every need and whim. She is feeling the pain, but he is dead. Who is better off here? It's a sad thing when you mess up so badly that you can't fix it no matter what. But to mess up like she did with no recourse at all. Actually serves her right. Stupid bitch.
"Real Men"
A "Real Man" might have been more confrontational; a SMART one realizes that being more confrontational may end up with him beating the crap out of someone, getting arrested for assault and possibly hung out to dry when his cheating wife tries to use the arrest as proof that he's a jealous, abusive husband, then gets the hell out of there and avoids all contact with her until he can cool down and have an appointment with an attorney to handle the possible divorce.
And of course what he saw didn't match up with what he expected from the past 24 years of their marriage. The unsuspecting cuckold husband NEVER expects it when he finds out his wife is cheating on him.

I feel that women in general disrespect their husbands shamefully. Just think, if she had even the slightest respect for hubby, she would NOT have let another man in the house when he wasn't there, especially because SHE wouldn't put up with HIM having some woman in the house when SHE wasn't there The man was in the house drinking with wifey and hearing bad things about hubby,. As any horny guy knows, when a woman allows him liberties, he'll go for it and he could see that she didn't respect hubby. To make a long story short, if she had respected hubby, none of those things would have happened. She deserves the pain she's suffering!
What About The Kids?
Is she going to tell them how it's HER fault that their father is dead?
She may not have PLANNED on cheating on him, but she let Charles into their house, and didn’t slap him when he pulled her to him, and went willingly with him up to their bedroom!
The fact that she was coming to her senses when Phil came home doesn’t excuse what she had already done!

Did he kill himself? We will never know. Being in those circumstances I was unable to drive safely.
There are many seconds transpiring from leaving the kitchen, climbing the stairs, entering the bedroom, sitting on the bed. Him dropping his trousers. Then the mists would clear and she would say No! I think there is every indication she was up for it. She tried to convince herself she meant to say No! But was she too far gone to say No? Of course she will be sorry for herself, she was left alive to relive the memory.
Incredibly sad.
