A Big Stretch
Your stories are very good, but come on! 3 to 5 years the guy hung around without sex at the high school / college age. That is more than a bit unreal, especially given the fling with Melina. A young guy in that circumstance might wait a year, but almost no way he'd wait for 3 to 5 years. Unbelievable parts like that in stories make it hard for me to get into the rest of the story.
Sex in the 1950's!
I disagree with the previous comment. I don't believe that in the 1950's it was unusual for guys to still be virgins when they graduated high school. I graduated in 1958 and joined the Navy and I lost my cherry a year later in Barcelona, Spain. The writer did have Walt losing his cherry that summer after high school and then banging some coeds in college along with the woman at the tennis club. Walt waited for Susan to turn 18 before they had sex so I don't think it was that unrealistic. I re-read the story to verify this and I enjoyed the seceond reading as well.
