I like the rhyme pattern too.

Definitely not the association I find with jazz, but each to his own. Nice meter, too - seems mostly iambic (the trigger isn't, at least not naturally)

I associated myself with this pair

"When carrying this heavy load/

rhythm jogs the rider's knee,"

knee and toe tapping. Maybe it's just the form, couldn't flesh much out. I didn't like "goad", makes me think of a carrot and a turtle. I think you could've done a lot more in a different form, but with the same country road idea.

The worst laid track in all the nation

but every train ride overbooked

each seat is taken by two, at least

they ride and ride and love each jump

each eightieth mile the wheels go

bumpety bump

bumpety bump

They love the swing from mislaid curves

the sudden up'n'down of every groove

arrival delayed by a dozen stops

at last an endless downhill track

ever shorter comes each thump

again and again the wheels go

bumpety bump

rumpety hump

The final halt comes rolling on

for pleasure built on solid rock

the shaky tour will find an end

cheerful passengers in front and back

they all agree in call and response

before local track enthusiasts go numb

Oh, yes, what a most pleasant

bumpety bump

pumpety pump
