Our hopes can definitely eventually bring us down into disappointment. But without hope, where are you?

If I may suggest:

Hope is sulfuric acid that erodes the souls of those on futile quests.

It is the tormentor of the desperate.

It launches a thousand pointless journeys into barren lands.

Hope is the progenitor of self-perpetuating miseries.

It is the unholy bitch goddess that demands your soul as tribute.

It is the place from which pacts with the devil spring.

Hope is the bogeyman in the long dark night of the soul.

It is the voice in the night that whispers of that departed mistress or that longed-for child.

It is the Inquisitor-General to the yearning.

Hope is a mattress of diamond sharp needles that preclude rest.

It defies logic and reason.

It will keep you pushing forward when common sense and self-preservation tell you to stop.

Hope is a plague disguised as a blessing.

It will drive you to madness or push you to your death.

Hope is a demon that must be exorcised with extreme malice.

Remove the possibility, eliminate the desire and hope will flee...but not always....
