That cut way too close to home for me. Excellent story!
My 20-year reunion would've been even more disastrous.
I'll see your stand-in's PhD in medieval English history and raise you with an "A" license as a wastewater treatment plant operator!
I went to high school in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas, and had much the same relationship if you can call it that with a certain Kathleen Hawkins.
Anyhow, you brought back some really painful memories and made me laugh. Especially with the flunking out of community college to military enlistment bit. I went Navy, but hey, you got to go to Japan and Korea. I got to hang out in the Caribbean and chase banana boats. Yay drug war!
Plus, you got a PhD and got to follow your bliss.
Anyhow, keep up the spendid work!

Interesting start
There has to be a sequal (s) to this start. Too much left unsaid and open.
Now that we have the background and know the participants pretty well, we want action. I presume that starts in Chapter 2? Looking forward to it.

Don't think that an airline would route a flight from the east to Phoenix, then turn around a go back northeast to Denver before continuing west again on to San Francisco...doesn't make sense!
Nothing like a 20-year Itch

Great Story
Which explains why neither of them were able to keep a marraige flourishing... Thank you, Stultus!
