Excellent writing and plot. Poor Harry is upset with another story that has a plot he does not get. As usual, Harry ignores excellent writing, and believes he is god and can dictate the human stories that are acceptable.

The wife cheated.

She planned to get away away with it and she didn't ever plan to tell the husband

She got caught and blackmailed so now she has to tell the husband.

So she comes up with a new plan to make the husband so happy to have her back that he would be in a better frame of mind to listen to her cheating, and to do it she planned a way to make him so desperate to have her back that he would gloss over what she did (I kinda of find that far fetched personally (^_^)) as well as make the blackmailer believe he was responsible at the same time for blowing up her marriage.

And in the end, she manipulated everyone involved so there were no consequences for her actions

Don't like the bitch at all, but this is a story not real life, at least I hope it's not real. I didn't like the actions of the wife and the pain caused to the husband. But the story is well written with a good inventive plot, a good flow and is technically well done. That's how we should judge a writer and their work. Job well done.

SMUG and Self Centered Wife

The wife's character, specially with the last paragraph comes out as smug and unrepentant. Also, by not allowing the victimized husband to rant and rave and express his anger, the wife's character comes out as unsympathetic and cruel. People enjoy stories where the main characters are likable, not those who resolve issues with military precision for their own benefit with no regard to the feelings of person they are supposed to love the most. Highly unbalanced story with unlikely long term success in relationship. A FANTASY IN SMUGNESS AND SELF CENTERED CONTROL

Glad she's just a fictional character

I would have hated to be married so someone like that. Yes,
her plan worked, but it was a horrible manipulation of her husband.

Still, we have to assume he knew what sort of person he was marrying and it takes all sorts to make a world. One can never know, but I wonder how many husbands would want her back? I know I wouldn't. I'd like to think I could forgive a mistake, but I'd hope my spouse would be more interested in helping me with my pain than "winning." It's the part after her confession that I think is the most despicable.

How to tweak the wimps...

I doubt that anyone would find this woman likable, which begs the question about why her husband is so anxious to have her back. Clearly we're seeing her at her worst and have to assume that she is showing us a side of herself that she doesn't to others. I think we might even assume that she doesn't like herself for the way she's acting and thus made no effort to put a better face on her actions.

Having said that, I have to say I'm again amused by the wimps whose only reaction to the story is to label the husband a wimp and one bomb the story. How do I know they're wimps? Easy, they hide their names. I've developed a theory that these wimps have a cheating wife, a real slut. Further, I think they have a massive conflict because they are aroused by her behavior but understand that they don't have the courage to do anything about it. They are truly wimps and cuckolds and the only way they can assuage their rotten self-image is to pretend to be what they aren't her on literotica.

The proper action if you find a well written story you don't like because of the plot or the characters is to give it a 3, not a 1. There are some very poorly written stories here whose plot you find equally distasteful, so how do you show one is worse than the other?

Okay, I know such logic is beyond the cowards, but really! I do wish they'd at least write something more than "wimp" I'd enjoy insight into the mind of the girly men... I might be able to use it sometime in a story... what an idea. A story that shows real wimps who trash stories by saying the characters are wimps... now that I think about it I think it's been done.

Perhaps one of the better Loving wives writers could issue a challenge to write a story in this vein and the story that gets the most "wimp" comments wins.

I've never posted here, but I'd be game to join a contest like that.

She fucks around, then punishes her husband (whom she claimes to love), moves out of her marriage without explanation, keeps him dangling (and suffering) and then, mercifully, allows him to take her back.
He deserves her.
He should have sold their home, cashed out bank accounts, then told her that, if she wanted to communicate, to meet at some restaurant.
If she then showed remorse and LOVE (don't know how she would do that, though), THEN he might take her back on some tight conditions.
Her treatment of him was totally void of respect and love.

But you didn't say what Tim was doing for that week after she told him about her affair. No emails, no phone calls pretty much leaves the field wide open for looking up old girl friends. A get out of jail free card. She was so sure she had him right where she wanted him, she never bothered to keep tabs on him. First strategy of warfare, "Never underestimate your opponent". A classic last line after she stated that she was the General's daughter would have been from Mary with a grin like the cat that ate the canary, "Oh, I remember and so does Tim but don't worry we won't tell Frank, will we?"

A conniving bitch

She may be smart but screwing over the husband twice - first by actually fucking another man, then by hurting hubby by moving out without an explanation - and when the explanation finally comes, he's the one that has to pay the price.
She enjoyed her little adventure and manipulates hubby to even LIKE IT?
Well, I could, perhaps, forgive my wife having a one-time affair but being manipulated in this way would certainly ensure that she got to keep her apartment - forever.
What a distasteful character.
As a story, it was well written but the content made me mad/sad on behalf of her husband.

Good story but unsatisfying

She's like a person who robs a bank and then wants to set the terms of their punishment when they are finally caught after being on the run for a while. I think the characters are believable and the plot was clever. However, clever, manipulative people often end up outsmarting themselves. As pointed out, does he now figure he has a wild card? Even if he doesn't and circumstances provide him an opportunity to cheat he is probably now more likely to. Why not? She did it. Also, she set the terms of not talking about it any further and full acceptance of her back into the marriage. But you can't do that with emotions. She can't control his feelings. Even if he wants to accept her he is going to have an undercurrent of anger, resentment and other negative emotions toward her. Since they can't be brought out and discussed (by her demand) they will fester and corrupt their marriage. The more he tries to repress them the stronger they will become. So her clever scheme manipulated his rational actions but created an emotional minefield. Even if he realizes the problem and tries to talk about it she will try to push it away, again making the problem worse. She chose to use a war tactic to solve her problem but she failed to realize the weakness of her tactic. An aggressive attack may overwhelm an enemy physically but it cannot control the way the people will react after they have been "defeated" (look at many modern wars that were "won" but didn't solve the problems because they didn't change anyone's opinions). True victory requires a psychological victory which usually involves openness, honesty, and the slow building of respect something she seems to lack the ability to do. It would be interesting to see a follow up story that describes her marriage slowly crumbling around her and her being powerless to understand what is happening or to stop it. I mean, she attacked and won, right?

Fascinating manipulation and it could truly work - many people would be completely convinced by the behavior - I actually expected her to also confide she now fucks any time - any where she wants - but MAYBE she actually has some scruples or ethics it is a bit hard to decide. So she just managed to fix her failure better than most -

No remorse, no angst - all about wifey and what she wants. Realistic portrayal; she could be a JPB woman.

Second time around...

I noted before that this story was a perfect portrayal of a woman - no remorse, no angst - all about her and what she wants. Didn't really like the story then, but upon re-reading, excellent story in that HB wrote her character perfectly. Women - even the good ones - attack when they are wrong and they know that they are wrong. This wife could be a PapaToad woman and that is a high compliment. Six stars.

I disagree

She was remorseful, she was put in a bad spot by her co-worker who was going to blackmail her. Before that, she said she was sorry she did it, world never do it again and was going to walk the straight and narrow. The the idiot approached her. She was deceitful in what she did but it worked.

He needed a better PI

In cases like this, PI's would check back recent history. A recent business trip would have lit up his "let's see what that was all about" light.

Glad it worked out for her, but you know what they say: "once a cheater...". Especially Army brats.

Interesting plot line.

Good story... but....

Good story but like any other reconciliation story it leaves you wondering if the husband could really live with the knowledge that his wife strayed and therefore could stray again. It's easy for a character in a story to just let it drop, but real life just doesn't work that way. So as a story I gave it five stars, but could not favorite it because it just rang hollow on the connection to real life meter. There are people like both characters in real life I'm sure, but I bet not near as many as some would assume. And I'm willing to guess that the ones who are don't have a fully committed to each other type of relationship. People marry more for companionship or because it's expected if they can be the type that can forgive and forget. There is a difference between that kind of marriage and a marriage based on a deep abiding love for each other. I guess even in the other kind though there has to be some expectation of fidelity though because in this day of drug resistant STD'S and aids when you sleep with someone you really are sleeping with everyone else that person has slept with, and someone who strays generally does so with more than just one person. I know it's not a common worry in stories about cheating but in real life it's always there in the background and I can't help but wonder if knowing that your partner was willing to risk your health and life wouldn't put too great a strain on a marriage for it to be able to survive.

I can't decide;

is the woman a cold heartless beast, or a genius -- or maybe both. Anyway, the story is original and entertaining so who cares; definitely a 5* story in my book!
