So don't buy a new car at all

Buy used and avoid all the rapid deflation. I just bought a 9 year old heap with 99,000 miles. It's all I could afford, but I get the extra benefit of telling other folks how much smarter (really smarmier) I am because it is so cheap to operate.

Sorry, but your op-ed is full of very old ideas with nothing new to add to the situation.

Back seat talk brings back memories--

I think 2 of my kids are "backseat kids". It was years before I got a new car and yes, I kept telling myself how smart I was to drive a used one. Very funny, sir, thank you.

Regularly change your personal oil as well as the vehicle's. Did I get that right? Keeps you both rolling for many more miles.
