Interesting premise, but you need to check your history a little better. The phrase "great game" was not in use until the 1840s at the earliest (coined by Lt. Arthur Connelly) and not widely used until the 1880s. There were no British in Lhasa as early as your protagonist either.

You did not too badly on the history and geography of the regions though I might quibble with some of the projected travel times and the activity of the two empires during this period. Point of trivia for you--The Great Game was the British name but the Russians named it the Tournament of Shadows.
