Inconsistency?

Given that Suzanne has a relationship issue with her father, would she really go to him to borrow a paddle? And would she really tell him why she wanted it? She knows where to find a strap.

Yes. I knew it is a nit-pick but when a story is this well written, it is a shame to let it slip up on a little detail.
