Any woman showing her cleavage in a place as primitive and western-phobic as Islamabad would have been stoned, or abducted, raped and murdered; the place is a hot-bed of stone age prejudice and misogyny, and no Pakistani family would have allowed their nubile young daughters to remain unchaperoned for even a few hours, let alone weeks on end in a city teeming with frustrated males with no chance of ever getting married or having sex. I was stationed there once, and it was like travelling back in time to the time before they invented toilets, covered sewers, clean water, or rational behaviour.
