Entertaining story and well written.
I enjoyed your story, it was unfortunately right on the truth that many abused women will defend their abusers up the point that they are murdered. Fortunately there are some friends and relatives of the abused who do what is necessary to protect them.

Great fantasy
It took me a moment to catch the "So Doctor McCoy is for sure dead?" reference, but that was a nice touch. Since this is fantasy I won't belabor the issues of DNA and forensics.

Very good story. I liked the last line truely poetic - really good. The whole idea of "no good deed goes unpunished". Sadly a grain of truth since too true about abuse victims going back again and again to abusers.

I've always felt that "what goes around comes around" and people will get what they deserve, either in this world or the next.
My problem has always been that I want to be involved in seeing that they get what's coming to them. I'm sort of like the cartoon where two vultures are sitting on a cliff and one says "Patience hell, I'm gonna kill something".
Our hero wasn't satisfied to wait either and took what I think, even in fiction, was justifiable action.

then why did the protagonist hide the body?

a) didn't read the end of the paragraph, or
b) have no idea what Hendrixed means.
You go figure it out, and then come back and complain to me. You can't get past the fact you don't get the references; that's what you mean.
Oh, and if you're going to piss and moan about my writing? "cant" has an apostrophe. "Can't" -- see?

First time someone takes a beating and will not take appropriate action it's time to move on. Call one of those help lines for them and get the hell away from the loser.
Yup, little to NO sympathy for anyone who allows themselves to be abused when there are many avenues of help available.
