well, it relates to them inasmuch as i'm not exactly equipped to be out there trying to lure them in, though others suggest i should 'spread' a bit more. lol.

Interesting poem.

Good metaphor, well-extended through the poem. Poet Guy, not being an angler, had to look up "keep net" and still is not exactly sure what one is. (A submersible net to keep one's catch alive while fishing?) Poet Guy, speaking as a member of the male sex, also dislikes roiling desperation and frantically thrashing rainbowed flanks and sincerely hopes that part of his life is behind him. He empathizes with the narrator, though, and wishes her good luck at finding a more rewarding and less cruel form of sport.

I find this poem to be brilliant in its conception. I'd like to see these changes, but it's still easily a five, to me:

if only i'd spread
breadcrumbs on the surface
baiting blue waters
with shiny, pretty lures

but i hate the barbed hooks
gill-stuck and uncompromising
hate the frantic thrash of rainbowed flanks
that roil in desperation

i don't even have a keep net
anymore

I understood it immediately, though, from my moniker, that would be expected! :-) Just the title and linking it to angling/life are worth the reading. I love it.

"Fish don't have any feelings"... I don't think they'll care about thrashing a bit, out of air, as long as you take them to an aquarium, later, and take good care of them. :)
