Nice story, but
Miriam was very selfish. She treated Malichai like his feelings did not matter. He was certainly a better friend to her than she was to him.
Her indifference to Mal as a friend, kept me from enjoying the story. In my experience, though, that is typical female. So maybe it is realistic.
It was very well written and presented otherwise.

It's good you gathered preachers of all faiths at the end, but the rabbi should have spoken the Mi Sheberakh in plain english for everybody and your readers to understand the prayer and join into it.
I gave it a 5, but
Miriam is a heartless bitch toward Malichai. I would have severed my relationship with her. She knew that he loved her and she was indifferent to his feelings. This is a woman who has been friends with him since childhood. Was I mistaken or did they not expect to be married before her father dictated otherwise?
I like the story otherwise, but I do not respect the character of Miriam.

And I am speaking from a non-jewish perspective (I noticed commenters who liked it, and I couldn't tell if they were just reading it because it was about jews).
I think you should continue this.. or write more like this! :) It was really well balanced and not too one-dimensional.
For the record, I sympathise with Malachi but I can't say she's heartless because her mission led her to become too emotionally close to another man. That's when it is game over, really (anyone could and would cheat at that point).
