on the poetry table, the most intelligent thing I've seen this morning, perhaps too...I hope not. Def 5.
....this kind of poem, it reveals a small, detailed situation and drops it in the readers mind. Setting the scene in verse 1 then narrowing down the focus without losing any of the breadth of the vision.

The title pulled me in and as I read,I realized I was envisioning your poem in my head. How I love work that gives me an image as if I were there. I especially liked this part-
"Men may become apothecaries
But women with unguents are witches,"
Alfreda said under her breath
Who poulticed another sick brother
After she supped on day old bread
With butter and anything left.
