The way the story pivots so quickly from the conspiratorial preliminaries to Jodi's submission gives this story the feel of a fierce fairytale. Liz is a bracing mistress, stern, implacable, yet feels believable as a human being. Jodi too demonstrates a seething, ambivalent core of humanity beneath her acceptance of the submissive role. The atmosphere of the tale is dangerous, unpredictable, and very exciting. The threats both of discipline and rebellion charge the air they breathe; emotions are roused, but in turmoil. The overall effect is extremely seductive and suspenseful.
