The fact that the writer has NO experience concerning bows OR hunting is what really detracted from this story. NO bow (crossbow or other) can shoot 800 yards accurately, let alone "leading" a little bit to hit. The bowman would have to aim way up in the air--like in the movies when bows are used at distant targets!. Plus you have to "cock" a crossbow before you can "nock" (not notching) another bolt. And PLEASE... talking about veal coming from a baby deer!!! Veal is specifically the meat of young calves, that is, BEEF!
It sucks that there are a lot of interesting stories out there but no one ever finishes them! What a waste.
