Huh?

I don't get this story either. I thought she and her husband were seperated or divorced or whatever. Then she mentions him not coming home in chapter 2, so she can get naked without worrying about being bothered. She mentions her ex best friend. Why was she an ex best friend? Did she sleep with Hazel's husband? There is too much deciphering to do.
