A vehicle for revenge

While I appreciate the plan for a revenge that would forever poison the relationship between Ray and Joan (which seemed to be the central premise of the story), I just couldn't get over the fact that hubby had his wife gang-raped. I don't think killing or raping are ever acceptable methods of revenge against for cheating. Especially, as here, when it is so cold-blooded and the result of sober planning. It also stretched the bounds of credibility that the guys would all just go along with it.
The recordings actually should have made things easier for hubby-to hear that wife is in love with another man (rather than you) is easier in some ways than hearing that she loves you, but is betraying you for whatever reason-it gives you the closure you need to move on.
Well-written, and a clever idea to poison the love that has ruined your marriage, but I just couldn't get over the rape and the amount of suspension of disbelief required.

Ok story

Story was ok , but the ending to me was weak .

Our hero arranged a gang rape of his wife. He screwed her after four other guys had her. He talked his friends into cheating on their wives. He secretly filmed them doing it. With friends like him, no one needs any enemies.

I read stories that have four star ratings because they usually are the best. This one, however, is just plain disgusting. How can anyone rate this four and five stars unless the readers are perverts that enjoy having a guy set up a gang rape of his wife. He deserves jail time instead of sympathy.

The wife in this story earned and enjoyed her treatment on the card playing evening. Husband was correct - if she had simply asked for a divorce, he would have given her one.

I'm somewhat surprised by some of the comments about the morality of using rape as a means for revenge. I don't want to sound like an apologist for rape because in REAL LIFE it is, in all cases, immoral. But I admit that the rape element in this story did not outrage me. Honestly I thought the scheme was quite elegant on many levels.

I just find it interesting that I've read similar revenge stories on this site, where wives have been bred with dogs, left naked in an inner-city crack house, or surreptitiously sent to Latin American brothels with nary a comment on the morality of the revenge.

Technically, there is no doubt rape occurred. This is a FICTIONAL story. In this STORY, the only people clearly 'hurt' by this incident were Joan and Ray, and that 'hurt' was to screw up their future relationship. # Tough...they were both involved in callously and deliberately screwing up our protagonist's life! I think this is cleverly conceived FICTION (& the author COULD have arranged the timing and circumstances to leave her pregnant with a mixed-race bonus in this STORY!)! DGH did NOT advocate for gang-rape as a general act.
# balancing that 'hurt' we have three counts of satisfying long-term fantasies, plus a back-door bonus for hubby...heck, even a farewell shot for Ray! Excellent trade-off in my opinion!

I can't speak for everyone here. DG is a writer I respect and he seems to have a sense of morality. This is not something he normally writes and is a bit simple for his normal work.

Those other writers, I frequently don't comment on at all. One guy had a woman trapped in a cage in the desert. (Shakes head) As one of the writers here said: "How can you hold other people in contempt if you behave as contemptibly?" (paraphrase) She cheated. He was not exactly a moral beacon.

Sub-standard, to say the least

Definitely not up to DGH's normally high standards. He went for the cheap over-the-top revenge rather than finding a better way to satisfy his need for retribution. And involving his friends in adultery was tacky and not the mark of someone with high character. Finally, the hook-up with Sue was a contrived happily-ever-after solution that did not ring true. Alex basically ran off and left her to clean up the mess he created by his very public exposure of his wife and her husband, yet she was able to get past that and make him her new husband. Not realistic. This author has done much better, but then you can't hit a homer every time at the plate.

the kidnapping and rape, but the rest of the story was very good. 3*

Not for Me

I usually like almost anything from DG Hear but this one doesn't do it for me. I guess I must be a WACC or whatever but even a lying slut can say "no" and if she does, it's rape. He didn't do his friends any favors either. Here he is, all put out about the fact his wife is screwing around, and what does he do? He convinces people who are supposed to be his friends to screw around on their wives. Not only that but he drops a pile of manure on the woman for whom he is supposed to have some feelings and then vanishes leaving her to deal with the aftermath alone. Sue must be a masochist otherwise she would be staying well clear of this guy.

Have always loved DG but didnt love this one.Rob conner is right. cheaters dont prosper. one partner came to know the other was cheating, gang rape was not needed. payback is a bitch.

Weak premise

I am a fan of DGH but not this story. First, I never connected with anyone in it. Next, the rape setup was too pat for me. There is a HUGE difference between wanting to screw a beautiful woman and raping her. Getting all his friends to agree, especially after Ray voiced his objections, is about zero.
Why would Ray first object then participate? Just because he was horny?
Next, when Joan woke up, she suspected immediately that something was wrong. What if she went to the hospital for a rape test. Also, people talk, there is a saying that they only way to keep a secret is with a conspiracy of one. Ray blabs and everyone else's marriage is on the line. Drunk or not, the odds of everyone agreeing and then keeping quiet are minimal.

Was over the top to me,it was making the punishment fit worse then the crime. His buds were no better and ray was a piece of crap too,he didn't try to stop them or call the cops. No one is blameless except due,the wife may have loved ray but she wanted to stay because hubby was so good to her.He could have found ways to humiliate them both without the rape,shown the pictures to friends and family,made their lives hell.

Usually respect your stories and the plot line along with character development. What Joan did deserves consequences but not rape. I have trained personnel to work at rape crisis centers and this revenge would have left such a mark on her so that her life could be over without lots of strength and significant help. If she was having trouble with Ray imagine what she must think about ex hubby. If I would have this happen to a patient in real life I would assist her in any way to put her despicable ex in jail. Sue needs to have her head examined to for getting involved with him after seeing how he dealt with the infidelity, how might he deal with disappointment in his kids or whatever. Or, how he left her to deal with the aftermath after he slip. He was so cowardly.
