This is a really well written story. Usually I skim through some of the verbiage, but not on this one, because there was some seriously interesting dialog, particularly when the healing started. I guess one could say this is predictable, but then again given the story line, who knows if they will end up together, although my vote is a resounding yes on that one.

Can't wait for chapter two. Five stars.

Wow

Fuck this was good! I'm stunned. Something of this quality, on a free site? Brilliant.

Medical facts

Insulin lowers blood glucose levels. If it's given to someone having a hypoglycemic event it will make them much worse if not outright kill them.. Glucose in the form of sugar of food is what's needed. Please get your facts right. It's very distracting otherwise. I do like the story..

Medical Facts

Giving a Type 1 diabetic sugar water before she loses consciousness is a perfectly acceptable way to treat the patient. In absence of glucose pills, sugar water works in a pinch. The brain does not require insulin to process blood sugar and the blood sugar must be raised immediately. Regular food does not raise the blood sugar as fast. As far as the insulin shot goes, there isn't enough information to know whether that is the correct treatment. If the child skipped her insulin shot as well as breakfast, she would definitely need her insulin, then a meal (insulin goes first).

Bad Medical Advice

Whoah! No, no, no! Never try to learn about medicine from fiction, let me tell you.

Hypoglycemia = LOW blood sugar. Symptoms have very rapid onset. Taking insulin would lower blood sugar. Giving insulin in a hypoglycemic state would make blood sugar decrease and, given that the blood sugar was low to begin with, cause severe brain damage or even death. What the little girl needed was sugar or an emergency glucagon injection to *raise* her blood sugar.

Hyperglycemia = HIGH blood sugar. Symptoms usually only present after being hyperglycemic for a long period of time. Treatment would be to give insulin.

Remember, it's always safe to give a diabetic sugar, but not always safe to give insulin.
