I like the idea of the story but I just couldn't get past the improper dialog punctuation. I don't want to sound like a grammar police but there are reasons why there are dialog rules and people expect stories to follow them. The other thing that threw me off was when you mentioned another story on the site. For me, once the story starts, I expect to be "in that world". Don't bring me back to reality with an editorial comment right in the middle of the story.
