Very good, I liked it. Just noted that a favourite word of yours is mutter. Author quirks can sometimes get in the way of a storyline. I really liked it, as the rest was well written, though at times a 'his' was written as 'him'. These are just thinks that a grammar nerd shirks at. Great job though :)
