I am trying to reconcile the FIRST paragraph with the rest of the story. Is it that everything after paragraph 1 is a fictional tale that he is writing (and will presumably show her - or let her find) to avoid admitting to her that he violated her privacy in his attempts to fix his(?) 'gin-fueled fumble'?
OR, is this an action on her part to make up for her(?) 'gin-fueled fumble' and really did happen, and they are finally back on-course?
OR, something else?
