Press is nothing but liars

Everyone wants to take legal guns away from us. Do you think that will stop drug users for ther drivebys ? The biggest crimanal in the US is the press, example being every article on the slaying in Contt. says that the young man used an AK15. That is a false statement, the AK15 was in his trunk of the car. Any mass slaying now have a AK15. The slaying in Webster NY is investigating the issue where a young woman was coherced by an elderly nieghbor to buy 2 rifles. When the crime was committed the slayer had a pistol and a rifle. New York has the best laws in the nation pertaining to ownership of weapon that can be concealed. The investigation seem to have buried anything about whose pistol that was, instead lets hang the teenager that made the purchase. The press blows everything out of whack, they are nothing but liars. I hate to read the daily paper because you have to wonder about the truth. As long as the press can run free you better believe in the second ammendment, that may be the only thing to save you some day. I bet there are alot of jews that wish they had the second ammendment in Germany.

Nightmare

It reads like your rambling comments came from your squirt gun. I think we all can be very thankful that you don't own the real thing. I hate to think what would happen if the fortunes of my beloved country were left to you. All of the rights that you enjoy as a free American hinge on the second amendment. It gives the others teeth. There is no telling what may have happened in the last 200 years without it. You are so narrow minded that if you fell on a pin it would blind you in both eyes. If you choose not to exercise those rights, that is your choice, but you had better hope and pray that our constitution is kept intact. You are also free to move to any of the so called gun free zones available elsewhere in the world.

Rambling nonsense

The vast majority of people in this world are sheep who wouldn't hurt one another for any reason.

Then the are the wolves. There are different wolves who go into your homes and help themselves to the things you have worked to buy. There are wolves who confront you on the street and take your valuables. There are wolves who use their power to attack the sheep hurting them, raping them and killing them. There are those wolves who say they represent the public good but take our money and line their pockets only for themselves.

Finally there are the sheepdogs. A lot of the sheep don't like the sheepdogs because they look like the wolves but the sheepdogs are there to protect the sheep. At times they hunt the wolves. If the sheepdog crosses the line and harms the sheep they are no better than the wolf and deserve to be treated as one. For thirty plus years I have been a sheepdog. I hear the voice of my good Shepard and follow his direction. I take great pride in the fact that I can hit a 3" object at 200 yards but yet I have never harmed ANY of my Master's creatures.

Where I live guns are more regulated than anywhere else in the US but wolves with illegally obtained guns are killing each other and innocent sheep more than ever. The screaming answer is to take the guns away from the sheepdogs and the sheep that aren't using them illegally. Will that make the wolves give theirs up? Face it some wolves need to be shot. Notice that I said "some." Lots of wolves only deserve to be caged up but we don't have the ability or facilities to house them all. A gun is just a tool. If a chisel is used to to create a thing of beauty no one is outraged. However, if it is used to create a swastika, should all chisels be taken away?

There are two quotes that I find hold as much meaning as the ten in the good book. "Those who fail to remember the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them." and "All evil needs to succeed is for good men to do nothing."

Germany in the 1930's took away the guns from the sheep. How did that turn out?

Look what my story did Ejone?

Look at what my story did Ejone for you to leave a comment. The fact remains Ejone that I must be a damn good writer for you to get up off you ass and write something, when you haven't written anything since high school.

Yet, instead of making a thoughtful response, you have to turn your words into a personal attack on me.

Chew on this. Did you know that we writers write here for free for your personal entertainment? Did you know that for every 1,000 hits that I get to my stories, one person will vote for my story? Did you know that for every 10,000 hits that I get to my stories, one person will make a comment.

I dare say Ejone, you are not one in 10,000, you are much too ordinary for that. You're only focus was the someone was writing words that may mean the government was coming to take away your gun. Too busy polishing your bullets, you missed the entire point of the essay.

You failed to realized that we are all stupid fucks and are so controlled by all that we see on TV. A record number of guns were sold after the Newtown shooting. Why was that Ejone? Because the NRA were on TV telling everyone that Obama wanted to take their guns away.

Moreover, what about Bush and Cheney? Look what they've done to our country. Why aren't they in jail? How can Bush get away with giving a no bid contract to supply our military with everything they need without having someone there looking over their shoulders to see what everything costs?

How can Bush put Paulson in place as the US Treasurer when he was in bed writh Goldman Sachs? How can Paulson lie before Congress that Goldman Sachs was in good financial condition a month before they went bankrupt when he knew better.

Why did Paulson lie before Congress? Because as prior President of Goldman Sachs he had 450 million dollars worth of stock option that he needed to cash in before taking the seat of Treasurer. Did you know that Ejone? And did you know that Paulson didn't pay one dollar in taxes when he liquidated his stock?

Moreover, Ejone, did you know that when Paulson and Bush passed out the tarp money to their friends, no one accounted for the billions of dollars that left the treasury.

Did you know that for Bush to sell his baseball team, the Texas Rangers, that he made a deal to sell 120 radio stations to the man who bought his team? Illegal for Bush to do that, he loaded the FTC with his people and they made it happen, just as Daddy Bush fixed both presidential elections for his son.

Yet, here you are angry that someone dares writes something about your damn gun. You're an idiot Ejone and now everyone knows that you are.

Question

I am just wondering why this must be a ruse to get people to buy more guns. Isn't it equally likely that this "ruse" is the next step of the US Government (Perhaps in conjunction with the UN) to establish a database of where weapons are and who owns them? Such a database could then be used to tax or otherwise remove personal firearms from the possession of law-abiding citizens.
Also, I wanted to confirm that you do understand that machine guns and other fully automatic firearms have been, are, and likely will continue to be illegal to possess.
Thank you for having the courage to honestly post your beliefs and as much as I may disagree with them I hold equal respect for the entire Bill of Rights including you right to free speech and efforts to effect change in our representative republic.

American Insanity

Americans are so frightened that they will be hurt or killed by criminals that they want to carry firearms around for "self defense". The net result of being armed is that it frequently makes you belligerent and more likely to harm another person if you don't like something they do or say. This is a factor in the high homicide rate. If you don't believe how many of our citizens are murdered comared to other counties, look up the UN statistics. Compared to a similar country like Canada, we have 6 times the murder rate.
The US has more people in prison than any other nation yet everyone is still afraid. Our country is run like a "free for all" to benefit businesses, often to the detriment of our citizens. Our patchwork of laws and competing authorities are a travesty. Electing law enforcement and judicial officials is just wrong, among other bad moves.
Health care goes hand in hand with other crime reduction necessities. Those that say the country has no business providing universal health care forget that the days of not expecting the government to regulate various aspects of citizens' lives disappeared when income tax was instituted. The government demands a piece of your earnings, you have a right to get something for your payments. These returns should be support of your basic health requirements, including not being shot. If many people weren't forced into a financial "either/or" sutuation regarding medical care and other concerns, they would be less stressed and less likely to see everyone around them as adversaries.
Sorry for the rant. I see how other countries deal with these issues and it makes me crazy that we can't (or won't) deal with problems without all the vitrolic rhetoric.

What Tripe!

Chuck Schummer, Senior Senator from New York, laughingly said that the reason given by some folks for wanting guns is because they don't trust the government. Well, SJP, damn skippy. The government is not my friend. They will take and take and put more and more rules on us and take away freedoms until we're a totalitarian state. You should maybe read the Federalist Papers or other writings by Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Then you might understand. The founders of this wonderful country were afraid of an out of control government and thus the 2nd Amendment. Hopefully it will never happen, but if it does, I want a gun when the government comes to me and tries to control every aspect of my live. And by the way, that is what "Gun Control" is all about... CONTROL.

Good Intentions & Road Building Material

I am disappointed by the amount of ignorance displayed in this essay. I say ignorance because the author, by her reasoning, shows that she is not stupid but grossly misinformed. I found the lack of facts to support her arguments to be very disheartening, as the author either didn't bother to do the research or found that the evidence didn't support her position and therefor discarded it. The depth and breadth of her logical fallacies is staggering; ad hominem, ad ignorantiam, argument from authority, argument from final consequences, argument from personal incredulity, begging the question, confusing association with causation, false analogy, false dichotomy, post-hoc ergo propter hoc, reductio ad absurdum, straw man, tautological, moving goalpost; I could teach a class on basic logic from this document alone. She obviously means well, but I seem to recall an old adage about good intentions and the paving material for the road to a specific location...

As constructive criticism, I would recommend the author look to add facts and figures that support her position or disprove the position of the people she is quoting. Further, she would benefit from actual counter-arguments not just witty banter and derision to support her position and disprove the position of the people she is quoting.

Both sides of an argument

The problem with this, like most arguments, is there is truth on both sides. On the author's side, yes we are being manipulated by the politicians and the media. On the other, as the forefather's knew absolute power corrupts absolutely. On the one hand you say the government is corrupt and out for money. Guess what, your right. But what is money but a means to power? Your solution to this is to have only the government and criminals armed? How does this improve the situation? As others have said it is this kind of environment in which Nazi Germany was formed. You do know there is a reason those types of government are called totallitarian do you not? They at least attempt to have total control.

Put more succinctly

Once on the slippery slope of suspending any of the constitution, "for the greater good," no one is safe. What's to stop them from coming after you. Their excuse would be "your corrupting the morals of our youth with your filthy pornography."

Stay tuned...my next story...

Stay tuned. My next story is about the abolishment of pickup trucks and motorcycles.

Presently, I'm passing around a petition to limit beer consumption (lol) to one can or bottle a day. Does anyone want to sign my petition?

There's no truth the rumor that I will never write another incest story.

I'm not surprised that my essay on the Second Amendment stirred up such a commotion. You should read some of my e-mails (lol).

Yet, there's something missing. We haven't heard from any of the supporters of gun control. All of those people who want to ban assault weapons are hiding for fear that someone will shoot them full of holes.

Just to let you know, all of you men, and it's always the men, who bashed my story, I squirted you all with my water gun. Consider yourself skirted. You're all wet.

It's not even really about the guns.

It's about our rights and our government trying to take them away. At least it is for me. To say guns are the problem is ignorant, they are a tool to accomplish your goal. If you're a good person that goal is to defend life, liberty and or country or even target shooting for fun. If you are a bad guy then it's to hurt or kill others. If you were to magically get rid of every gun on planet then people would find another tool/weapon to kill or hurt others with, we have been doing so since the dawn of man. ie Cain used a rock to kill Able.

If you are against guns don't buy one, but don't take away my right to own one f that is my desire.

The MOST important words.

The document that started this great contry began with three very important words. WE THE PEOPLE. Thats us children. What this country does and what this country becomes is dependent on what WE THE PEOPLE do. If we don't do our job right then we get what we deserve. Corruption in Washington? Who is at fault! WE THE PEOPLE. We put those assholes there and we are not doing anything about it. Of those three very important words two of the come into play in the Second Ammendment. The right of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. The words "a well regulated militia" did not mean the National Guard or some other established military unit, it meant THE PEOPLE! In times of trouble the call went out to every able bodied citizen to grab their musket and come running be the trouble indians or the government at the time which was England. If you read the papers of our forefathers it is plain to see that even though they thought they had formed a more perfect union they were leary of how that new government would work out and they wanted the people to be able to take up arms if necessary if that government went wonky on them. If our government ever gets to where they can confiscate the guns of the citizens the next thing to go will be the right of all of us to freely speak our piece as all of the commenters have done today. Doubt me? Hitler gathered up all the guns and a free press died and was replaced by government run newspapers. Stalin gathered up all the guns and a free press was replaced by a government operated newspaper. Mao gathered up all the guns and you are all aware of what happened to free speech in China. Can it happen here? Take a look at one of thre first steps. Really read all of the Patriot Act that was shoved down our throats. Take that and add what they can then do to a disarmed people. Think on this my children. THE PEOPLE need to wake up and get their heads out of their asses.

common sense thought

If gun control was the answer then New York, Detroit, LA, Chicago, Washington D.C. and other cities with strict gun laws would be the safest. But instead they have the highest crime rates. Why because law abiding citizens obey the law criminals don't. Is there any other fact that you need to know that proves gun control doesn't work

Dumb.

This post shows that you know nothing about guns. To start with machine guns and real assault rifles have been banned for a long time. What the liberal fools in office and their uninformed followers want to ban now are guns that look like them. Do some research before posting.

You're all wet?

I've got to accept this as just entertainment Freddie, I'm pretty sure it's tongue in cheek - but in case it's not...
Unfortunately in our society, most people have forgotten the reason for the 2nd Amendment, or for any of the Amendments known as the Bill of Rights for that matter. The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do about hunting. It has nothing to do about protecting ourselves from our neighbors, or the thug from the other side of the track, or the rapist that climbs through our window at night - although it does can allow those things to happen. The Bill of Rights is a listing of all the affronts placed upon our forefathers by the King, and interestingly, similarly upon Germans by Hitler, Russians by Stalin (as others have already pointed out). The Second Amendment is the inalienable right to protect ourselves FROM THE GOVERNMENT. Yet you would turn around, barely 200 years later, and totally forget that lesson that so many fought and died for, that those we must fear the most the "legitimate" government that rules us? When the government decides that they know better how to rule your life than you do, when the government decides they know how to save money for you better than you do, when the government decides they know what you should and shouldn't be able to do in the privacy of your bedroom or with whom, when the government decides whether you can or can't say anything about the government - then we're right back where we started and all is lost. Amazing how close we are to that point, isn't it?
The idea that the Second Amendment is strictly about "hunting" weapons, and that somehow they're "OK" whereas "military" style weapons should only be available to the military is exactly contrary to the meaning of the 2nd Amendment. The Militia, meaning the people who are able to reach under their bed, into their closet, into their gun cabinet and arm themselves to respond to the needs of their family, neighbors, or even country - are the first line of defense. Not the police, not the Army, Navy or Marines - but the people.
A myth has developed, possibly before, but at least in the last half century that covers my life, that "The Police Will Protect You." Last time I looked in my closet, back seat, garage - no, sorry, I haven't seen any police there ready to protect me. Last time I looked where I have my gun, near at hand and ready - yes, I can see it is there ready to protect me. All the police can do is come in after the fact, try and decide right from wrong, try to figure where the bad guy went - and probably get it wrong. No, the first line of defense of the citizens is us - the citizens, protected wisely by the weapons we have the right to, and should, own. There is one thing in common in all mass shootings - and it's not that the perpetrator is armed.
It's that the victims are not.

Be sure you read and UNDERSTAND what Ms Parker has written here, before you comment!

As per her usual writings, Susan Jill Parker is trying to make us think! That's right making WE THE PEOPLE think of all the things that have led to the discussions and panels on gun control. It's not just gun control or restrictions here, to me it's what AMERICA is all about. This second generation Sicilian does see what is being said here and the goal of most any author is to provide entertainment, education, thought and something to believe in or agree or disagree about. My feeling is it made me think and wonder about all the things we cannot possibly do anything about. If this writing did any of the above, don't crucify the author, but be grateful she made you think and value you citizenship!

Enjoying your prose

Miss Parker,

I hope you enjoy my comment. I have been a fan of your writing almost since I started reading posts on this site. To be honest you've open yourself up to a world of contraversy with this post. I like some of the rebuttal comments left for you as well. Some of them have been constructive, creative, well written and educated. As opposed to the ignorant comments left which do nothing but attack you. I wonder as you previously commented where the fearless and logical supporters of gun control are and why they are not posting in support of your position. This may be an indication of your true fan base. I am honestly suprised at your position supporting gun control and reviling anyone who wishes to own a gun of any type. You also support that the only people who should be allowed to have guns are the people who defend us and our way of life. Can and do we not have a right to defend ourselves? Weapons of all types are part of our way of life right down to the very first weapon a simple rock. Should there perhaps be a rock ban and we should have rock control laws? To also answer some of the ignorance posted by the anti gun control supporters, there has never been an actual gun or assault weapons ban. Those were just illusionary measure to make pacifists and touchy feely anti weapon types feel more comfortable. The only change was the regulations, procedures, processes, applications, and requirements that need to be met in order to legally obtain and own any type of weapon/gun up to and including fully automatic machine guns. In other words as long as someone has the money time and is willing and legally able to go through the process to apply for the right to purchase and own those firearms the option is available. I suspect that will not change only the process to aquire and possess firearms including "assault weapons" will just get harder. Anyway I enjoyed your essay.

I gave it a three and to be fair should not have rated this rant at all.

I hate writings from semi-informed people who mindlessly parrot the term "assault rifle", or "assault weapon" because what we are discussing is neither. Assault weapon is a media creation by those slick word meisters to make soccer moms tremble behind the wheel as they take kiddies to where ever they need to go. An "assault weapon" can be a fist, stick, knife, gun, car, or anything else used to assault a person. In fact you are more likely to be killed by fists than by any sort of rifle, which includes the semi-automatic type under assault in your diatribe. An "assault rifle" must by definition include the capability of full automatic fire, hence is sometimes referred to as a machine gun, which it is sort of, but not a very effective one, because the high rate of fire uses up the available ammunition much too quickly and then the user can resort to throwing rocks at their adversary.

You stated that only Government alphabet departments should be allowed to own machine guns and of course that is basically the law now, since machine guns are very limited in number among us normal civilians, are registered and cost a lot of money due to the laws of supply and demand. They also cost a lot of money to shoot due to the prodigious appetite for ammunition and the cost thereof. The semi automatic rifles you are really referring to are just that, they are not machine guns and are not assault rifles like our military uses along with most police department swat teams. I know it is convenient to mislabel them, because many people are just too ignorant to bother with the differences. Sadly many of those people also vote.

You do need a lesson in the history of why the second amendment was written and why it was made the second most important item in the Bill of Rights. Something about the fear of tyrannical Governments, not that we should have any such fears today of course??? In my speed read, I hope I didn't miss a sentence or two about we don't need those kind of guns for hunting.

And of course you savaged the NRA as something most evil and an organization that almost runs the Congress. It is always easy to vilify an organization you disagree with. The truth is that among the approximately four million active members there are all kinds of people from liberal to conservative, from educated to not, from rich to poor. I know that to be fact because I am a member and I talk to others and find they span all facets of our society.

I read your writing because you have submitted some good work. This wasn't one of them.

Guns! Guns! Guns!

Guns! Guns! Guns!

I dare say that some of you have not read more than the title of the story.

My story is not all about guns. You have the right to own a gun and to protect yourself. I agree with that. Yet, when a man walked into a school and shot innocent children and teachers with an automatic weapon something needs to be done. Do you agree with that?

Yet, instead of doing something, anything, we're still waiting for someone to do something. It's been more than a month and nothing has been done except, we've sold more guns a record number of guns.

Actually, we did do something. Do you know what we did? We bought more guns.

All it took was for Wayne LaPierre to make a national appearance on TV and say, "It's not the gun, it's the person."

Men who feared that the government would swoop down and take all of their guns bought a record number of guns. Why? Because they were fooled and tricked into buying them.

Big Brother is here and watching you. Only, Big Brother is not our government. Big Brother is billionaires laughing at you.

If they want you to buy Coke over Pepsi or Bud over Miller they do that with a commercial.

If they want you to favor one bill over another, they do it with a news report.

If they want you to vote for this one over that one, they print disparaging articles in the newspaper.

Five men, just five men, control this country and all of you. They own all of the radio stations, TV stations, newspapers, and cable TV networks. What kind of news reports do you think you're going to see? You're going to see what they want you to see. We're no better than communist Russia.

Yet, so long as you have your guns, your beer, your big screen TV's, and your big, bad trucks, you don't care about the rest. Because you don't care about the rest is why these 5 men are so very rich, powerful, and influential. Because you don't care about the rest is why there is gridlock in Washington.

Nothing is getting done in Washington because 5 men are pulling all of the strings of every Republican senator and Congressmen while you miss the whole point and rail about guns.

Why aren't you railing about these five men who have taken control of America's media? How stupid can you people be not to see that you were manipulated by the NRA to buy more guns, a record number of guns. Meanwhile, absolutely nothing has been done to stop more shootings from happening in the way that did in Newtown Connecticut.

That doesn't matter, so long as you have your guns. You're all set. You're all just too dumb to see the bigger picture. And this isn't even the tip of the iceberg.

You allowed them control of you. You gave it all away by not voting, protesting, reading, and understanding what was happening behind Charlton Heston holding his rifle over his head and saying, "From my cold dead hands..."

Bullshit. Hook, line, and sinker, you fell for all that you see on TV and read in the newspapers when our media can no longer be trusted. You are reading and seeing what they want you to read and see. You are doing exactly what they predicted that you do.

I'm happy for you all. You have your guns. Now go shoot yourselves.

you appear to be misinformed yourself

apparently, you need to research the news a bit more yourself. the shooter in Newtown CT did not use an automatic weapon. automatic weapons are illegal for most of us to own. the only weapons Adam Lanza used in the school were handguns. please get your information correct before you rant.

also, do you really believe the police will protect you from "bad guys with guns"? The US Supreme Court has ruled multiple times that there is no obligation for the police to "protect" citizens. The police are only there to solve crimes after the fact. I believe (see, opinion) it is better to be judged by twelve than carried by six!

and lastly, I agree with you about the media and new world order that are trying to control us. that is after all what gun control is about, CONTROL. unfortunately, this great country may already be too far gone to save. too damn many bleeding liberals that believe it is right to take money out of my pocket to feed the lazy good for nothing bums on welfare! and let's not forget the stupidity of foreign aid.

Please, Ms. Parker, stick to your usual good fiction.

It doesn't matter

It doesn't matter if it was one gun, a six shooter, an AK47, or a machine gun that killed those children and teachers in Newtown Connecticut.

What matters more is that nothing has been done to keep that from happening again. Nothing has been done to keep us safe. Nothing. Why? There's no money in doing anything about keeping that from happening again and from keeping us safe.

What has been done is the NRA broadcasting their position that it's not the guns. Guns are good and people are bad. Buy more guns. Hurry before the government passes a law to take your guns away. Is that it? Is that what your little minds all think?

The fact remains that a record number of guns were sold after the shooting and after President Obama swore to change the gun laws. Tell me, is it because Obama is a black man that you hate him so much (lol)?

The fact remains that guns in America has become a bigger promblem in America than before the shooting. The fact remains is that this will tragedy will happen over and again.

The fact remains is that nothing will be done about guns and gun control until it's your child is shot dead.

You all focus on one thing, guns. The essay is so much more than just guns and our Second Amendment Rights. The essy is about President Bush starting a war with Iraq based on the premise that they had weapons of mass destruction when no such weapons were every found.

Those in power knew there were no such weapons but Iraq instead of Iran was an easier target and as a bonus they had lots of oil and lots of money.

The fact remains that Cheney was given a no-bid contract for Halliburton, his old company. The fact remains that Cheny became a billionaire from our sons and daughters dying in Iraq and Afghanistan. You should be angry about that.

The fact remains that Bush sold his portion of the Texas Rangers by making a dirty deal to sell 120 radio stations to one man. What? How does that happen? Don't we have laws against that happening? Not any more when the Republicans voted out the FTC people who were put in place to protect us.

The fact remains that Papa Bush, ex CIA head, fixed not one but two presidential elections for his son, Dummy Bush. Why aren't you angry about that? What's wrong with you? Put down the beer, turn off the TV, and wake the fuck up.

The fact remains that Secretary Paulson lied to Congress by telling them that his old company, Goldman Sachs was healthy when they declared bankruptcy a month later. The fact remains that Paulson cashed 450 million dollars of his stock option without paying a dime in taxes.

The fact remainss that Bush's old pal, Angelo Mozilo of Countrywide Bank, the one man responsible for starting the housing crisis and so many people losing their homes, didn't go to jail. Instead, after being fined 35 million dollars, he was allowed to keep 445 million dollars while the rest of you idiiots lost your homes. Why aren't you made about that?

The fact remains that Paulson opened the Treasury doors and passed out billions of dollars to his buddies without account for who receive how much money. Why aren't you as outraged about all of the above as I am?

It's all about guns. Guns are only the side issue of America no longer controlling their newspapers, television stations, and cable companies. America was for sale and 5 billionaires bought and paid for your ass to watch, read, and listen to whatever they want you to watch, read, and listen to.

Why aren't you angry about that? Why aren't you angry about being lied to by Bush and Paulson and played by those 5 rich men. Why doesn't that bother you?

It's as if you are all babies and nothing bothers you until I take your bottle away. Your bottle is your gun. You don't really care what else happens in the world and in America so long as you have your beer, your big screen TV, your pickup truck, and your gun.

Because of you, because of your non-complacency, and because you are too fucking dumb to care, the rest of us are poor, hungry, unemployed, or under employed.

Why are gas prices going up 35 consecutive days? Because they can. Period.

Because you don't care enough to say, "Hey! Enough with the gas gouging." You just pay your gas bill and kiss your gun.

It won't be long, your gun will all that you'll have left. It won't be long, you'll be sitting in your chair, eating your cheese doodles, and watching nothing on the 500 cable TV channels but commercials before you blow your brains out...with your own gun.

How's that working for you? I can't wait to say at your funeral, "I told you so."

Well Susan you really did it this time,

it certainly didn't this piece long to stir up controversy. Based on the current scores I may be the only one to give you a five so far, and did so in spite of being in total opposition of your expressed points of view. I even went so far as to list it as a favorite because it was well written, thought provoking, evocative, and entertaining. What more can anyone ask of a story? I am not going to comment on your reasoning or your position on gun control as that has been covered and apposing views have been adequately been covered, and as so many have considered your views and made reasoned and thoughtful responses I hope you will also consider theirs. Now when it comes to my beer and my pickup truck this is an altogether different matter, and if you start coming after those I will evoke my second amendment rights and take up arms and go on the offensive. Just to ease your mind I didn't run out and buy anymore assault weapons. (but I am still working on my nuke)

Protection from the Government

Remember, Susan, Thomas Jefferson was all over this subject. His most pertinent comment pertained to the government. "God forbid we should allow a government to exist for more than 4 years." On guns, although I can't quote him exactly, he said the government does not allow citizens to have guns, it is their inalienable right guaranteed by the constitution. Specifically, he said citizens should keep guns to protect them from their own government. (Which is probably why the irrational midget Michael Bloomberg, Barack Obama and the Democrat party members want to ban guns.

A lot of ranting here, not too many facts.

First let me say that I don't own a gun. I used to own a shotgun but I gave it to my son when I stopped hunting. So let me intrude on your rant with some facts. An assault rifle is a fully automatic weapon used by the military. This is banned for civilian use. What is called an assault rifle that can be sold to the general public is not fully automatc. The only differences between a huning rifle and the so called assault rifle are entirely cosmetic. For example there are things like an adjustible stock, a baffle around the barrel so you can hold it without getting burned, and a pistol grip that make it an "assault rifle". It is neither more nor less lethal than a hunting rifle. Another fact is that last year there were more people killed with clubs beaten to death than were killed by these so called assault rifles. The reason that gun owners get so upset about banning assault rifles is that they view it as an end run around the second amendment, and after reading your essay I would have to say they are right. If there is no functional difference between an assault rifle and a hunting rifle why ban one and not the other? The answer is that they do want to ban both--they just can't get there yet.

The supreme court has already ruled that gun ownership is an individual right and that you don't have to belong to a militia to exercise it. Given that, the possibility of banning guns completely is zero. What would happen if we could though? Well they can and did in Great Britain. What was the result? Well since the ban London has become much more dangerous than New York. They both have roughly the same population, the same size police force, and spend about the same amount of money on their respective police forces. New York still has a higher murder rate due to the gang/ drug violence. In almost every other category of violent crime though, London wins easily by a lot. There are more rapes, muggings, home invasions, burglaries, etc. than in New York. And by a lot. Why? Well the James Martin case is indicative about what is happening.

James Martin was a farmer who lived about 30-40 minutes from the nearest police. His home had been broken into a half dozen times. The police were completely ineffectual and could not protect him. He armed himself with an illegal shotgun. One night his home was broken into by two young thugs with rap sheets as long as your arm. They had knives. He shot and killed one and wounded another. He received more prison time than the burglar. The plain truth of the matter is that the only way a 50 something man like Martin can defend himself from a pair of young thugs, armed with knives or not, is with a gun. And guns are illegal in Great Britain. Like my son who is a pollice officer tells me. The police can't proect you. What they can do is sometimes arrest the guy who murdered you.

Armed and Dangerous

Armed But Not So Dangerous

Armed and dangerous, he had a big gun and she reached for it. When she did, he put his hand on her hand and held it there. She just wanted to feel the hardness of it.

"What are you doing?"

"You have a big gun and I just wanted to feel it in my hand."

"Really? You'd like to feel my gun?" He looked at her with lust. "Do you want to see it?"

"Yes," she said running her long, manicure fingers over the stock.

He let go of her hand to unzip himself and pulled out his cock while she pulled out his gun, pulled the trigger, and shot him.

"Susan! Why did you shoot me?"

"Do you have a license for this gun?"

"Huh? A license? Yeah, of course," he said falling to the ground in pain. "I'm license to carry."

"You should have known better than to be packing a gun around me," she said shooting him again and again. "That's what you get for down voting my story asshole. That's what you get for missing the whole point of my essay. It's not about fucking guns, you moron. It's about everything, Republicans, Bush, Cheney, the recession, the housing crisis, and greed."

"I'm sorry Susan. I'm sorry. I didn't know," he said gulping for air. "Please. Call me an ambulance."

"Are you going to vote me a five vote the next time?"

"What?"

"A five vote. Are you going to vote five on my next story?"

"What? A five vote? Yeah, sure, if I survive."

"Promise me."

"Promise you what?" He was going into shock and losing consciousness.

"Promise me you'll vote five for my next story," said Susan leaning down to shake him awake before giving him a kick in the ribs.

"I promise, you crazy bitch," he said under his breath.

"Say it!"

"Say what?"

"I, Wayne LaPierre promise Susan Jill Parker that I'll vote five on her next story."

"I, Wayne LaPierre promise Susan Jill Parker that I'll vote five on her next story."

"Okay," she said dialing for an ambulance.

"911. What's your emergency?"

"His gun shot Wayne LaPierre. I need an ambulance."

Can We Have the True Facts?

Susan, let me preface my comments by informing you that I do not have a gun permit, do not own a gun of any type, don't drive or own a pickup truck, but do drink beer; however, I prefer Scotch.

Could you please name the 5 individuals who own all the media that you continue to rant on about?

Bush did not find Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. True statement, however, are you seriously trying to tell me that Sadam Husain did not have Weapons of Mass Destruction? Would you like to explain that to the Kurds? If I can believe the news media, (with a grain of salt), Hessian killed approximately 1.2 million Kurds. This figure is probably inaccurate, but what the hell does it matter if I'm off by one or two hundred thousand; after all they aren't white Americans are they?

I just finished reading the book, Thomas Jefferson, An American Patriot. He was scared to death of a government growing in control, like every other government on the face of the earth at that time, to be able to control ALL of the people under their monarchical or dictatorial purvey. Hence, the addition to our Constitution of the 2nd Amendment, the right to bear arms, which shall not be infringed upon. Jefferson's fear was that the monarchist such as Alexander Hamilton and John Adams would be successful in their attempt to either establish Washington as the first King of America or worse, have George III, assign the first King of America. People's right to bear arms was viewed as this new country's best defense.

Yes, Nazi Germany, Russia, China & Chicago all have taken away the right to bear arms from the law abiding citizenry. Chicago has the highest murder rate of any city in this great country of ours. This is because the bad guys are not disarmed. It also doesn't really matter that most of these homicides are black on black crime on the south side of Chicago, based on drug trafficking.

Now to truly address the slaughter in Newtown, CT. I personally could care less as to the type of weapon that was utilized. This horrific crime was carried out by a man who was in desperate need of institutionalized mental health care. Yes, I said institutionalized! Locked up! Put away! The only way to protect society from this mentally disturbed person. Suffice it to say that this action will NOT be 100% successful. This is what is needed in our country, not gun control.

Perhaps you could start paying attention to Fox News instead of EVERY OTHER MAJOR NEWS network. I am not saying they get everything right, but they are so much more accurate in their reporting of what goes on in this country and around the world, i.e., Benghazi. You think that the news media is all reporting the same thing and controlled by 5 rich, unidentified individuals. Pay attention to Fox. You will find stories that are not reported in any manner by the other major news organizations.

I could go on, but will end this epic novel here. I do, however, appreciate you posting such a provocative piece. Thank you Susan

Quit Taking Your Meds Again?

Hi Susan not a fan since I don't read the story catagories you write, but do own lots of guns, none of which have killed people. Your rant although quite emotional and rife with inaccurracies is why the anti-gun crowd loses people. We already have laws that prohibit what you claim to want, but it's not the lawful gun owners that commit these atrocities. The CT shootings were committed by a mentally ill young man whose mother made the bad decision not to secure her firearms. With CO, AZ it was colleges that failed to notify law enforcement of the poor mental health so the background checks could have stopped their purchases. Your ramblings about the Bill of Rights is right out of the lefty handbook. Unlike your assumptions they aren't listed in order of importance, you freely exercise your right to freedom of speech, while seeking to infringe on my second ammendment rights.
The question I have for you is what have you ever done to contribute or protect those rights? So many people in this country, yes you included, believe the gov't granted us our freedoms, they didn't, they have been hard fought and won by those willing to take up arms and lay down their lives for them. I spent over 25 yrs of my life doing just that so twits like you could rant on about things you know absolutely nothing about. More people are killed by doctors than by firearms every year, the same can be said of cars. Violent crime is down nationally and tracks with the increased number of states passing right to carry or concealed carry laws. Crime is increasing where the strongest gun control laws exist, not a coincidence. Please don't confuse US laws with what they do in other countries. Our Constitution ends at the 12 mile point out at sea, South Africa has there own constitution and is not known for its love of personal freedoms like the US.
I know about gun violence first hand, I was robbed at gunpoint while working my way through college. I vowed never to be a victim again, the police came and took the report, because that is what the do, fill out crime reports. Maybe you want to entrust your safety and the safety of your family to overworked Police forces who will never have enough manpower to ensure everyones safety. If I had been shot they couldn't have done anything about it but nofify my next of kin. They don't prevent violent crime they attempt to solve it. I choose to take the resposibility of my safety on myself by whatever means I choose. When push comes to shove cowards like you will hide behind people (men & women) like me who know how to protect ourselves and our families.
Your ignorance is only exceeded by your naivety. You seem to believe if the second amendment is negated and guns were confiscated all would be well with the world. There are those in this world who would gladly take everythinf you have including your live if they are gauranteed not to worry about you being armed. I'm sure you're not aware this is exactly what the Nazi's did before WWII

The Alternatives? A long but thought provoking response ( I hope!)

Susan, I agree with you that something should be done to prevent another mass murder from ever happening again. The acts of deranged individuals should never be tolerated or forgotten. I think that was the reason mustard gas was outlawed after WW I, atom bombs and gas chambers after WW II, and jet airliners after 9-11. OOOPS, they haven't considered that one yet.
Now let's consider how we could have stopped the individuals responsible for using these things, short of assassination. Lets mandate that every man woman and child in the world must take a psychological health exam every year. No wait, it has to be every 3 months, because someone could just go nuts because of a personal tragedy. We don't want to give them much time around well adjusted people. Now that everyone has taken the test, and the government has decided who has passed and who needs to be put away for our protection. Where do we put them? and why? They have not committed any crimes, so they can't go to prison. That leaves house arrest, again no crime, so no to that one too, or commit them to a mental institution. We don't have enough facilities, money or providers to care for the mentally unstable individuals we have today. So I guess that option is out too.
If we can't remove the sand from the salt, what can we do? We could outlaw clothes, so no one can hide a weapon that is readily accessible. Then everyone can avoid those with the guns. Its not a bad idea, but could mean a whole lot of skin cancer. Then again, after a few generations, evolution would weed out the genes that are susceptible to melanomas. Okay, so this is not a viable solution either. What else could we do?
We can pray that no one ever considers harming another person. Will it stop someone? Probably not. Will beefing up every police force? Because we never know where it will happen, do we need to have police on every corner?
I am not sure how well you know American history, but this discussion has happened before. I would like to give you a quote from someone you might know:
" They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us.
Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. "
These words are as relevant today as they were in March 1775, when spoken by Nathan Hale in his "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" speech.
As a military veteran, son and father to more veterans I am proud of our nation's ability to stand up and answer the call when needed. One of my sons was severely injured serving in Iraq by a landmine. My wife had three cousins die in 9-11. If I could have stopped these incidents I would have gladly traded my life to spare them. My family knows that I would willingly put myself between any danger and any of my family and friends. I would do my best to prevent that danger from getting past me...to the bitter end. People that don't know me might be surprised to learn that I would do the same for them. I can only hope that others might be there to help me, because I am not young anymore, but age won't stop me from trying.
Perhaps, if there were more people with this attitude, those seeking to do harm could be stopped sooner. What do we have instead? A majority of people stand back and hope someone else will do the job. If someone had helped that school principal, could the shooter have been stopped? Maybe! If someone had stood up to those hijackers, could they have been stopped on 9-11? Probably!
I hope this has given everyone something to think about. Sorry if I rambled, but this gets me at my core. Thank you for your time.

Why are you angry?

Susan why aren't you angry that the no bid contracts to Haliburton started under Clinton? Why are you not angry that the current admin has pulled even more shady deals then Clinton and Bush combined? Why are you not angry that the current admin had as big a roll in the TARPS bailout as the Bush admin and that it was voted for by more Democrats then Republicans? Why are you not angry that the current admin has several people from Goldmann Sachs? Why are you not angry that the gun rush started well before the last election not after the shooting?

I could go on but you really need to become better informed.

I was going to leave this story after my posted comments, but SJP has persisted in her attacks on the NRA, which I find particularly misguided. I have avidly watched the firearm and ammunition buying frenzy after President Obama was first elected and now again following re-election. The Newtown tragedy amplified the perceived need for more guns and ammo because the usual suspects trotted out their gun control bills and staff quickly wrote even more draconian bills to submit. This is going on at the Federal level as well in many state houses. Just watching Governor Cuomo gloat about what a wonderful thing New York has done is scary enough, but the idiots in the Kalifornia Legislature are trying to out do him and make no bones about it.

The truth of the matter is that Wayne LaPierre as head of the NRA didn't have to utter a word to members, or in fact any of the gun owning non members to push them into record purchases. It was as obvious as the nose on your face that there was going to be another push to regulate something. It didn't matter what so long as it had to do with firearms and it made politicians look good on the TV news bytes. People do not rely on the NRA or any other organization to make up their mind on this subject. In fact the only thing I heard Mr. LaPierre talk about was putting armed guards in schools, something which should have been done long ago. Of course since this came from the NRA it was immediately vilified by the media, but if a liberal politician had suggested it, the praise would have come effusively.

The other effect of all this hype from the political hacks is that many people are becoming first time gun owners. The only thing that seems to be slowing them down is the lack of guns to buy because the store shelves are a bit bare. First time gun owners are a bit scary to me and other long time shooters. They want one for various reasons, but watching them appear at a range for the first time is eye opening. The worst thing you can do with a gun is own it and never shoot it. To be competent, it needs to be used so there is no thought about how it works when and if you ever need it.

Oh, Susan, lose the rant about Bush and Cheney, it makes you look a bit like a conspiracy nut. (insert smiley face here)

God Bless America

God Bless America

The land of the free, the home of the brave, and the country where everyone owns an arsenal of guns.

Hidden deep in the woods and high up on a mountain, Susan sat on her front porch rocking in her rocking chair. Resting her laptop on her knees while writing her erotic story, she cradled a shotgun in her lap while watching. yet, another car pull up to her trailer.

"Susan? Are you Susan Jill Parker?"

She took a long sip of her moonshine and spit in her spittoon before answering him.

"Who wants to know?"

She eyed him as if he was a revenuer.

"I'm a fan of your writing."

"A fan? You don't look like no pervert to me."

"Pervert? I surely am a pervert and I've read all of your stories."

"All of my stories?"

"Every single one of them," he said smiling wildly.

"Did you vote?"

"Vote? Yeah, I voted for Romney for President."

"No nitwit. I don't mean voting for president. I mean, did you vote for my stories?"

"Oh. No, actually, I don't vote and I didn't vote for any of your stories but I really did enjoy them. Gosh, shucks, I can't believe it's really you in the flesh, Susan Jill Parker. You're much prettier than your picture and your breasts are bigger too."

Squinting at him, she gave him the one eye as if he was a squirrel in her sights and she was taking aim.

"You realize that we writers write for free. Right?'

"I never thought about that."

"And you realize that one in one thousand readers who opens my stories will vote. Did you know that?"

"No, I didn't know that."

"Did you know that one in ten thousand readers who reads my stories will leave a comment on my stories?"

"I didn't know that either but I did write a bashing comment to one of your stories," he said with pride.

"A bashing comment?" Susan put down her laptop and picked up her shotgun. "Which one of my stories did you leave a bashing comment?"

"The one about the Second Amendment Rights are Wrong," he said.

"So, lemme get this straight mister. You don't believe in gun control? Is that it?"

"Gun control? Surely not. Gun control interferes with my second amendment constitutional rights. It's none of the government's business how many guns I own."

"Did you read the whole story?"

"The whole story? No, there were too many words and no pictures. I just read the title and thought I'd give my idiotic opinion."

"Get off my land," said Susan racking and lifting the scatter gun shoulder high to point the business end of the double barrel shotgun at him.

"I guess getting an autograph is out of the question."

"Beat it," she said pulling back the one hammer before pulling back the other.

"Can I just get a picture of your tits?"

"Scram!"

"May I show you my cock before I go?"

Boom! She fired both barrels and all that was left of him was smoke as he ran through the woods.

THE END

Get real!!!

I couldn't even read all of your gibberish!! Please look up the difference in machine guns, assault weapons and guns in general (as in rifles and pistols). I am not a huge advocate of guns and want no gun laws, BUT we have enough gun laws (in most states) but unfortunately they are not enforced. Machine guns, as in automatic weapons (pull trigger once, fire many bullets) are already against the law except by those owning a Federal firearms license (hard to get).
And yes the statement that: Guns don't kill people, people kill people is correct. A gun lying on a table or on a wall has never shot anyone. However when someone who is careless, doesn't know how to handle the weapon or is up to no good have killed people. Also keep in mind that the only way to stop a bad person with a gun is to have a good person with a gun. The police cannot be everywhere and it takes time for them to get to where the trouble is. Yes something needs to be done to prevent incidents like the school shootings but just throwing up more gun bans/laws isn't going to do anything. The guns used are not legally owned so no law will prevent that.

Really! what a pile of bull... go ahead be a victim. You are not an American your type is what destroying this great country, go live in Cuba you would fit in much better there where they keep a close watch on "their people" but they would not let you speak the way you have or you would end up in prison....everyone before me has said it much better then I could, my TRUE patriotic fellow Americans.

Did you even read the story?

Aside from reading the title, DarlaJeane, did you even read the story?

If you read the story, you'd know that the story is not just about guns and gun control.

Here's my stand. Everyone who wants a gun should have a gun, it's their constitutional right. Yet, as we do with cars, to have a gun you must be license and registered. Okay? Nod your head so that I know you understand DarlaJeane.

Now the story is more about how the media controls us. All we needed was for Wayne LaPierre to say that America wants to take away guns from Americans and everyone and their brother is buying guns. I call that control. What do you call that? What happened there has nothing to do with protecting yourself and the 2nd Amendment.

What happened is that the NRA is in the businesss of selling guns. Guns are big business. It's not about your safety or my safety, it's about money. Money! Money! Money!

The NRA doesn't give a shit who buys the fucking guns, as long as they are sold. Do you understand? Nod your head DarlaJeane.

Now go back to watching TV and buy everything they're trying to sell you in their commercials.

Thanks for reading.

Now go look at my other pages, AndTheEnd, BostonFictionWriter, CarBuffStuff, PositiveThinker, SuperHeroRalph, and WmForrester. I'll wait here while you not the more than 1,000 storiesa and 100 poems of more than 8 million words that have amassed more than 150 million hits.

Now, ingaallen, I dare say that the only made up person here is you. You have no stories attached to your name. The only comments you make to anyone's stories are bashing ones.

Tell me, how can I write so very many stories and still post comments under all of those names that you accuse me of? I'll tell you what. Why don't you just contact those people who you suggest that I am to see if they are real...asshole.

guns and second amendment

This sounds like a rambling manifesto. The founding fathers in their wisdom wanted an armed citizenry to prevent an all powerful government or the tyranny of the majority. There is provision for regulation and certain people should be barred from having guns. As anyone who was ever conscripted into the military will tell you, a citizen can be put in harms way against his will. The best soldiers have a familiarity ànd comfort around deadly weapons. Life is inherintly unsafe. You don't show up to gun fight with a squirt gun. There will be guns here for good wether you ban them or not. So in the interest of not living in a police state I support regulated gun ownership.

Bearsdad1

"Tell us...how do you really fell?"

Leave it to a basher to bash my 4,700 word story with a seven word grammatically incorrect sentence.

"Tell us how you really fell?"

What does that mean in English? How long have you been in this country, Bearsdad1? I imagine Bearsdad1 meant and was trying to be funny by writing, Tell us how you really feel?

Instead of giving us his opinion, he doesn't even read the story, never mind vote for the story. Nonetheless, he feels compelled to bash my story. Go back to school Bearsdad1 to learn how to write a sentence.

Unlike Wayne LaPierre who changed his stance when he discovered that he could make lots of money by doing that, I stand by my story.

Did you know that Wayne was in favor of all guns being registered and all gun owners being license in the way that cars and drivers are? Yep! It's true. He's recorded on tape saying that in front of all of the news agencies.

Yet, now, he changes his tune. Now he says that America wants to take your guns, when they don't. By telling everyone that President Obama wants to take your gun, Wayne sells more guns and gets more NRA members. He's not as dumb as he looks.

"Heil Hitler! Buy more guns! Heil Hitler! Buy more guns!"

Thank you Bearsdad1 for not reading my story, for not voting, and for leaving a stupid comment. You're done nothing to change my opinion of illiterate bashers.

Scheez!

What a performance you stimulated.
A lot of P.R. people carry on about the so called gun control initiated by the most profligate political leader my country, Australia, ever had. A blind follower of your American war mongers
This was a blind to distract us from the 'privatisation' of so many of the public paid for services, which now are costing almost out of sight.
The weird thing is that we now have more gun crimes than ever before so don't believe the spin that Mr Howard's gun buy back has minimised gun crime.
All it has done is create a public relations (?) outpouring and a new mini industry illegally getting weapons past the Customs people.
Further to your political arguments, I wonder who will be the next lucky (joke) third world country to suffer the outpourings of the American arms industry if the pull out from Afghanistan goes ahead. Maybe this time the US will actually win a conflict rather than spend millions on young servicemen lives and of course weaponry.

Wow...

I think if we push the collective commentary through a CPT Midnight secret decoder ring, we'll find the obit for civil discourse.
In the beginning, rightly identified, is the comment that the Second Amendment gets the most lip service. The First is right behind it, and whether you want to admit it or don't, the Second is that fire ax behind glass that stands ready to ensure the well-being of the First... maybe not a lot of precedent to demonstrate it, but that was the Founder's intent.
All concern about the government "coming to take my gun away" aside, the alleged purpose of all the hubbub is to "keep guns out of the hands of law breakers," yet the current VP has admitted law enforcement doesn't have the time or resources to go after those who falsify federal gun purchase forms, so the obvious conclusion is they're coming after my gun, since in theory, we'll comply, since we're law-abiding. I say enforce the laws on the books first. And look at Nirvanas of Utopia like Chicago , where gun control laws have done nothing to draw down gun violence... And only those cited by author have guns. This might have something to do with the reality that law enforcement has no obligation to protect citizens, but rather to apprehend suspects.
More to the point than anything is the fact that the Founders, without stating as such, recognized the right of personal self-defense, a prime aspect of the Second that so many are focused on.
One last point and I'll cease and desist: DWI vehicular manslaughter... make it a capital offense and we'll talk.
I have my raincoat on and super soaker fully charged...
