After reading some of the comments posted by your fans (of which I gladly admit I am), I must say that I'm a bit lost. I understand the anger of many regarding the cheating spouse and the vet's AWESOME revenge (quite inspired, btw). However, what about those faithful spouses of cheating servicemen?
I can't write (trust me on this), but I wish someone would write (or refer me to) a story where the non-military spouse is educated, desired, and not a bubble-head or a cuckhold, and the vet spouse is the one caught. Some of us faithful military spouses could relate, ya know...I'm just sayin...
But, aside from that dream, love your writing DFW!
I am not going to be popular with my take on this.......
She took his heart and supposedly destroyed it. One problem with that...he already has someone else meeting he and his son set up before he even came home. So where is there room in a totally destroyed heart for another woman and a relationship that quick. I believe in her paying a price for what she did to him, but what did she do to him if he can rebound with a new love that soon. He left her homeless...jobless...broke...socially ruined too...then takes her child...all for destroying his heart...doesn't look destroyed to me. One more thing, there are grandparents who he never considers he is stealing a grandson from...he is no better that what he says she is when he does that. If it was my grandson, there is no place on earth he could hide. She doesn't deserve custody with the bedroom/dada scene, but he lost the "high road" when he resorted to the total scorched earth action.

I found it well written, but rather over the top and his reaction a bit extreme. Then again, having never been in a situation like this, who am I to say what is an extreme reaction towards an unfaithful spouse.
I think the story had the potential to be a good BTB story. The over the top response ruined the overall story. I could see this level of response if she had publicly humiliated him, stole everything from him and spread malicious rumors in addition to being a cheating slut.
DFWB if enjoyed some of your other stories. This was not one of your better ones.

Wife was a cheating butch, but Eric clearly should have been medically boarded out like ng before this episode.
And as a retired male Lt. Col., U.S. Army, I have no sympathy for cheating wives of soldiers, but this guy reminds me of the G.I. my uncle shot and killed while sharing a foxhole with the guy in Normandy in 1944. That was to keep the other guy from killing any more of their fellow soldiers. Some guys go absolutely crazy in war and need to be taken out like the rapid dogs they've become.

If you never been overseas in combat you cannot fathom the loneliness and despair you have for your spouse/children when you cannot be home -- then the fear of what you might be coming back too is heavy. Now you have Skype/cell/etc - back in my day (and Eric's ex-father-in-law) we only had MARS & Z-grams, letters and the very expensive and rare phone call home from Subic.

Now how did he get all his information if he was out of the country? Doesn´t say. How did he find out she was cheating? and with whom? Doesn´t say either. Who is Kit ? And how does she figure in the story ? So why mention her at all if she doesn´t have a part here? You left the most important information out and just made it into a horrible mess. I really wish you luck next time. Hope you take your time and reread your story and ask yourself ¨Is this believable? Will antbody believe something like this could happen?¨ Before you send it to the printers.
