Beautiful and sad

Sad that the protagonist had no one to help fight his corner, and beautiful that he sees an innocent and wants to help them preserve such a precious thing.

The circumstances must have been terrible ones.

I think... Teaching others to defend themselves, or that they SHOULD defend themselves, is the way.
