You gotta love people who can justify betrayal. The world is full of immoral people who most of us wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. These 2 would fit in that category!

Damn

This tale is about two of the lowest form of life that ever lived. Cheating is justified, the illusion of infidelity passed muster on the spouses and they even continued until a child was involved. This tale needs a redux so bad that it screams, "Help." Your a talented writer. Why do you write about assholes?

Interesting Story

It almost requires a moral lesson. How about, Decide what you really want and then pay the price for it? Yes, basically the cheaters are happy. but they had to give up wealth, status and friendships.

During the tale I considered that the spouses all ready knew, and were trying to get evidence, which would show up when they stopped sweeping. Another twist would have been to discover that Brent and Julie had their own affair going....

Did't they get caught after the screwup at the sperm bank? So their plan didn't follow all the way through to not get caught. Not much of a winner there.

I thought that readers may like this story because it had two unique elements; the main characters worked as "relationship testers," and they had a "trust event," where they played to the cameras and convinced their spouses they weren't cheating. I guess that wasn't enough for those of you hate cheaters so much that you hate any story that in any way (even though not really) tries to glorify cheaters. Oh well, I had fun writing it!

I love the comment "we weren't 'In love" !

I enjoy when people look for anything to justify actions. What the hell is "In Love"?? how do we define it? Your characters "loved" their spouses but them did something which was bound to be deceitful and hurtful? And now you have kids? Gee, are you going to love them, too??

By saying "glorify cheaters" you are saying that betrayal is good. Good luck convincing anyone to set aside their morals just to enjoy your story. Just because it is written and fiction doesn't mean people should all of a sudden "glorify" something most of us have been raised to detest. I like to read about WWII in the European Theatre but that doesn't mean I'm going to "glorify" Nazism!

Story flaw

This story might have worked if you stopped the story sooner, and just let Kerri and Blake keep their cheating secret. However, the way you describe them getting together after dumping their spouses (and responsibilities) only turns both of them into self-centered sociopaths. It's very unlikely that two such manipulators could ever be truly happy and fulfilled with each other in a middle-class lifestyle.

By the way, cheaters ALWAYS win at the expense of others, not 'even if'. That's what cheating means.

It would not be a win with me, because you have to have teeth to smile. If my wife did something like that to me, neither one of them would be left with teeth or reproductive organs.

Unrealistic...

Trust event and subsequent aftermath is unrealistic. The two spouses and PI would likely be able to see thru the scam. Simple inquiry into court records would blow the sibling lie.

they got caught, then they want to play house, they both think nothing of cheating, and will fuck around on each other, or so the traits of the characters you created will respond.

Pretty fucking dumb - they would have gotten raped in divorce court after the truth about all their shenanigans came out. Judges don't put up with that "I'm in hiding so my wife can't find me cuz I cheated" excuse, and that's all they're going to have once some very pertinent questions are asked.

I'll credit you with coming up with a new and different angle, where people take pride in being shitheads and ultimately "win" for no other reason than you wrote it that way, but the story sucks, and there's nobody to root for. The leads are assholes and their spouses aren't represented.

To Capture Intent

So two people meet, fall in love and are then separated. They meet years later having met other partners where they formed a bond but still realise they have a deep connection. They rekindle their relationship, attempt to remain dedicated to their partners but realise in the end their relationship is what they wanted.
Without all the other fill-in words of courts, justification to readers etc (which only gives the negative readers fodder to feed) - this story was one of love found, lost and then found again.Liked the story!

The Scenario

Is very real. Having gone through counseling with my ex-wife and participated in an infidelity support group, many cheaters do it with former lovers and justify it in their minds as a sort of extra-curricular sex, but not really cheating. I can assure you, the pain they cause their spouses, male or female, is every bit as terrible as any other kind of cheating. Nothing good comes out of gving such pain to others so you can have your lover full time. As another commenter intimated, this character flaw will emerge again. It's only a matter of time.

The problem here is...

that the character traits of the two cheaters remain constant regardless of who they are married to. Dishonesty, manipulative coping skills, selfishness and a comfort with deceit are not generally situational. That being the case, while the author (through the protagonist) suggests a happy ever after scenario, the reality is like attracts like and neither of these people are likely to live happily ever after.

While it hurts to find out someone you loved is a piece of shit. Better to know so you can scrape them off your shoe and move on.

Even the protagonists in this story were cheaters what about their spouses ? !

Both have high well paid professional careers and at some point may resent their cheating partner for not being as ambitious as them.

So is it could be reasonable to think that due to their business travelling there is ample opportunity to have some flings !

He could only guess. He married a cheating wife who will eventually cheat on his ass. bastard kids for peanuts he sweats his cheating ass for. sure win for the accomplished exe's. no doubt.

A Win?

You could view it as a win, except that you are now married to someone you know has the personality to cheat! Hmmm, going from a loyal spouse to a lying betraying spouse? Is that a win? It may be justice in the long run!

Tell me again

how the two couples became semi-friends. Unlikely, they could get away with it as long as they did. The ending was a bit flat - and they were found out.

I hated the way it went. Their 1st child could have been from her husband, wouldn't that rock the cheaters boat. Because he had low sperm count didn't mean there wasn't any. Maybe the shipping company can help locating them. Cut them both up into little pieces, starting with their crotches, and work their way out. Great fish bait. Give them blood transfusions to keep them alive as long as possible.

It is a good story, cheaters don't always get caught, and that's the truth, but they do pay in their own way eventually.
