The point of this chapter is to give readers a larger idea of the world of the island – its history, the different groups of people who have settled there, etc.. I also wanted to provide a glimpse into Hildy's head. Hildy and Gwen are also major characters who will play larger roles as the story progresses. Plus this is the kind of story where the 'supernatural' attraction Clay feels for Stella is designed to feel more realistic and intense because it develops over time.
Basically, I am more interested in getting readers involved with the story and the characters than answering every question and dispelling all mystery and/or delving immediately into sex scenes. Perhaps background, character and plot development aren't 'erotic' enough aspects for some, but I hope others will appreciate the work and enjoy the story.

waste of a chapter. nothing to advance the story other than 3rd party hearsay of long ago things. who/what is she and what happened at the beach?
