Well done and
a great portrait of American life both city and country. I was a true country boy. Moved to LA at 16. HS then some college and then military. Later worked my way across the US at any job I could find along the way and ended up in Metro Detroit after a year went by. Married and had children and became reasonably successful. Moved back to LA. Divorced. Later to rural northern NV for a time then to CA coast (small town) and now in SC near the ocean by the NC border. Smaller towns and rural living is much kinder and friendly lifestyle. Thanks for sharing. It reminded me so much of friends past and experiences along the way.
Hot August Nights and Cool September Days...Carson City and Reno A&W and Thursday's at Harvey's Tahoe.
My car had a placard that showed a caveman and said Lone Wolf "Stuck in the 60's" my 66. Made 2 more for cruise buddies... . They passed on but aren't forgotten and I still feel stuck in the 60's.

Fine Story
About people mainly but some about the locality. Sort of like sitting in the sun and drinking a cold beer reading this story.
I find that I am stuck in the fifties......
ok
Another good slice of rural, small town life and a happy ending....Love it......and I'm still stuck in the 50's and 60's too.
Very Enjoyable
A fine story about people that felt real, not contrived for the sake of the story. Situations that could happen to anybody, and did. A good read.
good feelings
good feelings inside. that is what I expect when I read one of your stories. Thank you again
Another Great story! thanks
Thank you
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your 3 part story.
Thank you
No surprise; you did it again!
I just fished reading about Pete and Becky and Winona and all. When I got to the end I felt as I do when Garrison Keillor says, "and that's how it is in Lake Woebegone, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average." And to me, that's a good thing. W. C. Fields used to say, "A man needs to believe in something; I believe I'll have a drink." It gets so I modify that a little bit, into "I believe I'll read a bit about life by the Current River, where everybody's life gets all screwed up but they're all saved in the end by honesty, hard work, and love."
I'd love to sit around within easy reaching distance of a keg of beer with you, D G Hear, and Tx Tall Tales and just listen as the three of you spin your yarns. Hell, I'd even pay for the keg!

Love your stories and of course being a show me stater myself I enjoy the scenery.
Extremely well written story unfortunately very realistic.
A slice of life story with a lot of worts and mayhem. The characters were very real and well developed. The story focused on some seriously problematic people especially Cindy and Winona and not to forget Becky. I had the gut desire to see some retribution to Saul. This story could've gone in so many directions. I would've like to have seen more mention of Cindy's plight after the divorce. I felt Cindy had some mental health issues. I've experienced people in real life, who possessed similar characteristics of Cindy. All in all this would make a great movie or TV miniseries. Thank you for your effort. By the way five stars.
Mindless and illiterate drivel.
How is this garbage acquired its ridiculous ratings ??
Cheating of course ! What else? "1*" .
much better
than the 1st 2 parts. 5 ******s.
One word...
Incomplete.
Nice story.

The way Cindy was going she's probably a bag lady or street hooker. Good story. Cheers!
This is a wonderful read. I love to read but can't write a lick. In school I had a few of the girls would get me to tell their story and they would write it down and get good grades but i could not get a story out at all.

daughter and school
Why didn't he encourage his daughter to return to school? It seems strange that he an educated man, remember his CPA license would be ok with his daughter living a downwardly mobile life.
Great Story of...
...Small Town USA - typically American, values !!
Wonderful story - thanks Author - Well Done !!
it's a great story set in a geat country.
I love this story and it's setting, our country, with both upward and downward mobility to fit the individual.
I did get a technical 4 yr degree and worked in many engineering jobs, became an engineering manager and plant manager before corporate politics and boredom with no hands-on work caused me to get a job as a maintenance mechanic, draftsman, and enginee again, in that order. My son, however, passed on a full ride scholarship to become an oft hired and oft fired laborer, until he latched onto his nitch and the right job for him, a painter of aircraft. Now, at 28, he is a production manager of an aircraft paint company - with no degree and only a H S diploma plus several short courses, a dedicated work ethic, and a fantastic analytical ability. Oh, yes, he's still the best painter in the plant, possibly in the state.
The impotant thing is to find happiness in your job, cause as I was told many years ago, you're gonna be doing it a lot! For years and years! Lots a luck finding Your nitch.
