My usage was correct. Like other collective nouns, pair takes a singular or a plural verb according to whether it is seen as a unit or as a collection of two things.
A pair can be either singular or plural, as can many other words. Somewhat interesting story by the way. Is that it or is there more?
Always wondered how they built teamwork... now is this just a veteran cop giving the new officer 'on the job training'?
