Any particular order, Sparky?

Don't worry, I'll post this same comment on each of the four stories you posted today.

I don't even know if these stories are worth reading. I haven't read anything beyond the first couple of sentences in each one. And can you guess why? Do you think, maybe, that those of us who would be willing to read them might want to know the ORDER in which we should read them?

Chapters? Do you know what those are? Apparently not, it would seem. I'll spell it out for you: Breaking a story into "CHAPTERS" clearly delineates various portions of that story into a chronological order. Most authors would have the sense to spread out their submissions over a period of a few days, which would help to inform potential readers the sequence of the the stories, even if the actual titles didn't. And when you post a huge, steaming pile of stories simultaneously, it helps the readers to know the order in which to read the goddam things.

I know the argument you're going to make here: "But all of my A 101 stories have different titles. I can't put a chapter 2, chapter 3, etc, at the end of them because they all have different titles. The titles are different. The titles, the titles."

Suggestion: "A 101, Chapter 1: The Smoking Room." "A 101, Chapter 2: Field Test." And so on. Because, frankly, even if they each have different titles, we still don't know which one of the fuckers to read first, or second, or third, or fourth. Another alternative would be to drop the fancy bullshit and just call them "A 101, Chapter 1". Period. Include "The Smoking Room", "Field Test", etc, in the story's description.

It just makes sense to spread out the submissions, if for no other reason than to allow your readers to "digest" what you've written. When an author posts a handful of stories they've been harboring (or as another author has done recently, posting a couple of dozen stories) on the same date, few, if any, people will have the time to methodically work their way through them all. Some, which might have their own particular merits, will get lost in the general mess. Like today. At least do us the favor of including a sentence at the beginning of your stories to give us a clue which order they might fall into. "This chapter follows 'Blah-blah-blah'."

Seriously. How irritating.

I AGREE

Specifying the order in which the stories are supposed to be read would be nice.

The order

By following a couple of links to the author's blog, I learned the proper order.

The following is a direct quote from the author's blog.

"A 101: d2c, The latest installment to this series, which began with A 101: The Smoking Room, and continued with A 101: Forced Perspective and A 101: Field Test, with a tie-in to Also Known As Tamsin, now continues here."
