Great, original little story.

My feelings exactly. Brain beats brawn most of the time, and I've applied this sort of approach on a number of occasions (Not over the wife, more on the construction sites I've run). Make your point hard, but leave your opposition a small hole to escape through, and make sure he knows it!

Life's lessons always come after the test..

but your conversation with the kids in the car was spot on and the story gets an easy 5**** for that alone.

well done fun tale!

Okay, that one made me smile.

I think it would almost certainly have been more complicated if it happened in real life, but what the hell, all of these stories are fantasies on some level. Five stars for this one.

good

I got a good chuckle out of this one. A good fun story that is well worth reading again and again.

Outstanding!!!! 5/5

Direct, no sex, no insane violence: just a husband teaching his children AND a leacherous man the importance of knowing how and when to fight. Well done!

If one could

give a ****** rating, let's not go over board with the thousand stars. This should be published as a public service announcement. Needless to say....Loved it.

Didn't care for it !

But if Loving Wives hall of famers like Britease & cpete weigh in and find this eminently worthy, then I wonder what they're seeing that I don't. I have ZERO problem with a letch getting emphatically warned off at a very broad spectrum of levels. Involving his kids, however, was a bridge too far for my taste.

Innocence is a quality that once its lost, there's no comeback. Sometimes it is absolutely necessary to show how the seamy underbelly and mechanics of this mean old world, but to me, the crude pass made to narrator's wife didn't merit it.

I give credit to FD45 for making this edgy choice and not taking a wholesale gratuitous path over potholes chosen for 'shock value' ( see murphy621, Matt Moreau for that quality ) . The bottom line , however, is that this is a lesson I could never teach my kid until they're much older.

As another comment said " this is just a fantasy ". I'm not outraged, but unlike at least four to five other FD45 stories, I've rated at highest level, this doesn't work for me.

Funny, interesting, unique, short, seemingly original. Not sure you can bully a cad like that but it is worth the effort to try.

So teach your children to help guys like this get away with cheating, and use the opportunity to commit crimes like blackmail with false accusations of prostitution (note: propositioning a married woman may be asking her to make herself a filthy cheating slut, but it isn't prostitution by any definition of the law). Were this meant for the Humor/Satire column, I'd laugh, but given that you're treating it as a serious story, and one in which a guy actually teaches his kids to fight in ways that will get them imprisoned as adults, it's more like White Trash Loving Husbands.

Britease' excellently perceived comment

this was similar, in that it deals with a predator, to brits story. I still think there's a better way of dealing with this than either murdering him or taking your kids (oh please) along on a life skills mission. Ridiculous!

Great writing and outstanding story-telling. Thanks.

Anon 'so teach' gets it wrong

A woman does NOT have to solicit strangers on the street in order to 'prostitute herself!' If she accepts a proposition which includes or suggests any advantage or reward beyond a good 'rogering' then she has met that criterion! That could include an office with a view, or some nice lingerie, or an introduction to a famous violinist! That facet is not explicitly detailed in this account, but it is easily inferred (and these were verbal exchanges, with Hubby's get {kids} as the only witnesses!)

The kids sound like they might be between 10 and 15! Since C&H is my 'other' literary outlet, maybe even older! A great time to be presented with real problem-solving and ethical standards, in a very realistic forum! Also wonderful in demonstrating the operation of family dynamics - such as support of Mom, and Dad keeping the integrity of his marriage and family in the forefront!

Hubby should run for high government office! Anywhere in the world could use guys like this!

Cute story

It's a fantasy, so all right, but we all know little kids should be no where near grownup issues like this, and for a lot of us, it grated on our sensibilities. It would have been more realistic (I know it's a fantasy so realism is not required) if the wife vented about what the guy said to the husband, and then the husband runs off to confront the guy with his cleverness, come home and tells the wife what he did. My wife would have reamed me a new asshole if I interfered without her permission, because she felt she had already put a stop to it, and should the guy make a pass at her again, she'd crucify him, with public charges,or whatever.

What A Great Story

Really loved the tongue in cheek writing. Although I don't think I would want to be around those children as they got older. They will probably end up the type that would pat you on the back with one hand and pick your pocket with the other. ;-)

I look at the kids not as future criminals in the making...but ones who are a bit less easy to deceive and have a sense of how to handle those who wish them ill.

I like this story, FD45

I have to disagree with chilleywilley. Maybe he was one of the fortunate raised shielded from the nasty realities of life. I suspect more likely, as with many people I grew up with, they have deliberately made the effort to forget their childhoods.

The only people I have known who were raised so coddled, so spoiled grew up (but never matured) to be onepercenter assholes. Over-bearing, Over-entitled and Over-protected from the just consequences of their anti-social activities.

Just re-read this, and...

...I'm left with the impression that the protagonist is Curtis' cousin. Anything to that?

Nothing to it

The only resemblance is the author who has a warped way of thinking. All he does is adjust the 'gain' on his morality dial from 3 to -11 (for Curtis)

FD....

I have to disagree with Curtis's 'moral' dial being at neg eleven. It's sitting right where he needs it to sit....It's just that his moral dial isn't the same as the rest of us.. For him, lying, cheating, stealing and murder are perfectly acceptable forms of behavior. For most other people? Not so much.

I loved this one...

Clearly Dad was giving the guy every opportunity to both admit he did something he shouldn't AND to give every indication that he truthfully had no intention of repeating the offensive action.

And in exchange for that understanding between them all he asked was a reasonable *donation* to girl scouts. Not like he was profiting personally from this - except in the sense that the guy would henceforth leave his wife completely alone.

I mean it HAD to be clear this guy was willing to go to quite an extreme measure to protect his wife.
And nothing wrong with teaching your kids that they should help protect the ones they loved as well...

Cautionary tale well told.

The son especially needs to learn that sometimes, even in our fucked up PC era, that unless you are willing to step up, you or a family member will be taken advantage of. Men must stand up for their wives. If the wife doesn't want it, he needs to do it anyway especially in this type of situation where the offending party is wealthy and probably has authority over the victim. Sometimes you have to fight if you're a man.

Another thing to remember about fighting is; if you find yourself in a fair fight you didn't plan very well.

Proactive

Good for the Dad, he did not wait around for issues to escalate until he had a mess on his hands. Once some A-hole would not keep his hands off my wife while at work. When I found out I went to his office at quitting time on Friday, closed the door, walked over and sat on his desk and told him if he ever touched my wife or made her uncomfortable again, I would gut him like a fish. After he acknowledged my expressed concern I left. The wife never had a problem like that while she worked there.

In retrospect to your comment, I don't think the dad said anything that Curtis would not say about fighting, though Curtis would probably add more about the importance of kidneys and firearms.

the problem with that

Some have commented negatively about this, saying the children's innocence should be protected.
Unless you are going to be their bodyguard and protector all of their lives it would be better to give them some exposure to the realities of their fellow humans in a guided way.
Otherwise you will need to carry helicopter parent to the point of being a hovering Apache gunship in later years.

The problem is

That arrogance is just like stupidity. No matter how good a lesson Jim is taught, you can't fight instinct. Arrogance is in his nature, and that nature will always win through eventually. The only weapon against that arrogance, is memory. Therefore, you need to teach him in a manner that he will NEVER forget, either physically, financially, or emotionally. A brief encounter with a husband with kids in tow, will unsettle him for a while, but that memory will fade, and his true nature will reemerge. You need to hit him, hard, either in his body, in his pocket, or in his pride. Hard enough, that he will always remember the consequences of his actions.
