Catch it! Keep one end in each hand, palms up, and raise and lower each hand so the coils go back and forth - carefully increase the range of motion until the ends actually hop of the palms, but don't get to get back together. I used to think I was happily driving old slinky nuts with indecision. That was before I knew what it was like to be a slinky.
