A small mistake seems to be in this story (unless I am mistaken myself):
Rob states " It was about fifteen years ago and it was all because of who I was and what I did before I got married." after you have his wife threaten him that "24 happy years" were perhaps going down the drain. Surely they didn´t date for 9 years before their marriage, right?

EXCELLENT STORY, No cockoldings or wimps here. Written for fiction but honestly its reality that makes it so great. This is exactly what would happen in real life. Kids gone, just the two of them to enjoy each other to the end... What I do not get.. he should have acknowledged he knew from Amanda and the phone call. The fact is she lied. he was right all along, she met someone and planned out a date. Not to mention her friend never did like him in the first place.. so how can she expect her husband to go along with anything. Excellent story.. hope there is another chapter or perhaps another story. great job as always

You kept the story moving straight ahead (without any pointless distractions about cars and such), the dialogue was crisp and believable, and you left it up to the reader to decide what the two people looked like... I'm pretty sure this is the first story I've read where I didn't know if the woman was a C or DD.

A fun read definitely worth five stars. I can't quibble with him taking her back after 24 years of marriage. However, it seems she succumbed out of fear of losing her marriage and not because she felt she was wrong. The recorded call did prove she regretted her plan and established that she didn't want to cheat without hubby's consent. But in the final confrontation she admits that she will still think about being with other men. I would love a second half to see if she can stick, but it is perfect as is.

... and this one is certainly no exception. I don't know what kind of "come to Jesus" realization that you've had but all I can say is "good on you, mate". I've always said your offerings were either great or horrible with very little in between and, lately, they have been great. Love the concept

The only way a cheating spouse can truly regain the trust of the spouse they cheated on is to agree to a divorce and total capitulation. They must walk away from the marriage and not take any of the marital assets. They forfeited them when the cheated. The couple could continue to cohabit or live separately. They could rebuild their relationship or not. In any case, the score would be zero zero. This is the only way to rebuild trust, from the ground up.

Pretty well written story about two long married people who have differing goals and wants. Good resolution to the conflict, but the only thing lacking was the emotions. The story is written from Rob's point of view and kind of reads like a contract. There are conflicts spelled out, but in a dry and matter of fact way. There is no angst, no sleepless nights, no anguish over losing the woman he professes to love more than anything. I have never met a man like that and suspect if I did, that he would be incapable of expressing love for a woman, maybe a mustang, but not a woman. LOL

Outstanding as usual.

Hubby stuck to his guns, didn't back down, and Wifey FINALLY came to her senses.

The one point I might make is that any woman that would consider having an affair and actually goes so far as to suggest it rather than actually just do it is on the rare side.

It took me four tries to find one I could completely trust, oddly she is the naughtiest one of the four. But she is naughty mostly just for us, not for others. Note I said, "us."

Just to clear the air...she was going on a date with Rudy. Rudy was going to take her to a swinger's club meeting. What do you think they do at those meetings, pray the Rosary?

There was mention of other men waiting for her at the "meeting". That was going to be some date.

JPB, I always like your writing, it is just your endings that leave me less than thrilled sometimes. But not this time. A 24 year marriage was saved with both having confidence in the future. It isn't so much a BTB vs wimp thing as it is human nature to want 1) a positive ending and 2) the good guy to win. When the guy "wimps out", you get neither. But in this story, you achieved both.

So I am giving you a solid 5 stars and hope you can think up some more!

Also at the end it seems like she's trying to get back on his good side but there isnt even a final line from him saying he would accept. I guess he did? but it's still unclear.

because our hero had his wife figured out and stuck to his guns. Sally was an interesting character. Usually the subversive friend is a totally malevolent force. In this case Sally turned out to be a real friend. Just as likely, in most scenarios the heroic husband would have appeared at the restaurant and confronted the man, the paralegal, thereby making the situation even worse. All's well that ends welI, I guess.

She brings it up again, TELLS him she going on a dtre whether he likes it or not, and tells him if he can't accept it he can divorce her.

And she's somehow surprised at his reaction?

Ego, she didn't bring it up right away, he said it was after they were married 5 years, so I guess the 15-year comment should have said 19.

Drbeamer, I don't see where she admits she'll still think about being with another man, obviously she realizes the possibility, that's why she put those provisions in. But she obviously realizes that to keep her marriage (which she wants), she'll just have to suppress those urges. And who knows how many good years she has left, once she no longer "has the goods" it will all be moot.

Amanda brought up screwing someone else continually, and Rob tried to make it clear that he wanted nothing to do with it. The story has a happy ending, but Rob needs to be well aware that he should keep his eyes open. Keep the phone tap, and increase surveillance. The desire to cheat will eventually return, she's only learned that she can't do it if she tells Rob. Her only option now is to be sneaky. Her so called 'date' wasn't to sit on a park bench, it was to go to a full fledged fuck fest. She's already pulled the trigger on it. She told Rob that she wouldn't do it without his permission, but she fully intended to do it when he wanted no part of it. The shitstorm Rob gave her made her pull back. But--- that many years of wanting to fuck around. Can she just stop the desire? Good story, and thought provoking.

I got the feeling she had already met Randy and...some of the other guys. Why, because she seemed to know him and have seen/met a few other men. Sally refers to them as people they both know? Hmmm?

These stories satisfy the angry men readers I suppose, the ones that want to punish anyone who thinks about sex with anyone but them. I don't think there is a state in the U.S. that would allow a husband (or a wife for that matter) to sell a house unilaterally. Even a house purchased before the marriage (not true in this story I would gather) might have a spousal interest in play so that it could not be conveyed without both spouses signing the deed.

A bullying husband who is willing to see his own investment share go down the toilet could threaten to stop payment on the mortgage, but a decent attorney for the wife could prevent it and likely get a court to require the H to keep up the payments (or pay her enough in support to make them herself).

I have never quite understood why revenge fantasies are erotic to you guys, but I guess they are.

The details are different, and the arc of real marital relationships are rarely as simple as this short story will allow, but the sense is the same as what happened in my life. This could very well have happened exactly as written. I particularly like the symmetry - she is faced, in the end, with deciding her own fate. Thanks again for the entertainment.

It's not a punishment of the man to start a divorce property division with a presumption of a 50/50 split, regardless of fault. Interesting that you see the loss of the ability to toss out a miscreant wife and leave her penniless as a punishment to men.

Almost all of these revenge stories are of men getting revenge on the women.
Why is that? There aren't more cheating women than men.
