This struck a big chord with me. There are people who can fall into infatuation, but not love. When & if said object of infatuation treats these people with disrespect , the option of walking away with a sigh, but minimal regrets is very much on the table.
The narrator chose to stay with wife for various practical reasons but not because he was a fool for love. I so get and empathize with that. She got ' demoted ' from being his wife and equal down to the status of his valued but not irreplaceable paramour and co-parent of his children. If you don't that stings a woman, you don't know women.
The other stroke of genius that imhapless brought to literary forefront is just how much chatty women of the world love post-connubial talk. Quite frankly, any right thinking man who values one of these females should ponder & practice the mechanics of multi-faceted bedroom banter along with kegal exercises. Full marks.
It's clear you can write, but I think the main problem I had with this story was that I didn't feel anything for the characters. They're not cut-outs exactly, but they lack an emotional dimension.
I want to be able to cheer for the good guy and boo the bad guy, but your characters are so flat I just really didn't care about any of them.
Still, for structure and originality I'll give you a 4.
The feelings you describe are associated almost exclusively with sociopathy and narcissism (the condition, not the common casual usage)....individuals with both of these behavioral conditions are often able to love their children, in spite of their disconnect from others.
I'm not sure I would agree that a person who is married but not receiving love from their partner owes said partner the otherwise-essential loyalties and respects, either. Both sociopaths and narcissists have exceptionally high divorce rates, because from that starting point you cannot hope to provide your partner with the needed degrees of love, attention, and affection. They also tend to be exceptionally bitter about the divorces, and incapable of seeing their own behaviors as possibly part of the problem.
This guy doesn't need a divorce. He needs therapy.
Characters bereft of emotion and needed to be fleshed out.
The plot was interesting and a bit different from the usual cheating wife scenario. However, I felt the story failed to present any well rounded characters who provided the reader with the opportunity to become emotionally invested in the story..
Except he seems to relish the emotional harm he does her. A sociopath wouldn't care.
* star for pretty decent writing. There were a few speed bumps with clumsy execution, but I've read worse.
* star for story cohesion. Every plot point followed another, though the jump of 'best fuck ever' seems a bit out of left field. He already knew she was the best he'd had SO FAR. And statistically, there is bound to be SOMEONE better out there.
Do you get a star for realism? I get the guy. Emotionally distant, unsure of his role, but finds the kids to be a hoot and a half. Do I get the girl? No, I do not get the girl. Her reasons for cheating weren't transparent, he reasons for staying seemed unlikely at best and stupid at worst If I see the rails of the story, I am not inclined to give the star.
Now, the final two stars available. Did I like the story (*) or did I LOVE the story (**).
Well, that's a 'like'. You have a style reminiscent of JPB, with a spare emotionless narrative which cuts a lot of clutter out of the story. Unfortunately, there was no connection to the man at all and less to the woman.
Three stars is not a ding. It's a legitimate good score. I didn't waste my time but I won't mull over this story and it's ideas like I will some others.
Thanks for the story. I found it refreshing as a revenge stay together story.
There is no reason to give up "the best sex ever" and still get some on the side if you don't have to.
Thanks for the entertainment.

Character description - excellent.
Thanks for writing the story and giving me my morning entertainment as I drank my coffee. I liked the story and wanted to see how it played out. I thought Jack's character was true to his thoughts on life and love. That I see, turned off some readers; but that was how he was and you and you portrayed him perfectly. His coldness, like many of the burn the bitch people who comment on stories, was perfect, for the sociopath he was. Well done!

Clearly, it WAS more important to her than it was to him to be married
And so there in lies the revenge. She messed up the marriage, so she doesn't get to be married anymore. Despite the final comment, I think 10 years later, he just might reconsider his opinion on re-marriage, but it was interesting to see his revenge would continue on for a long time. I really wanted to like this story. I am a person who likes to talk a lot, and good communication is very important to me in my relationships. Too many stories present a failure of communication, and the cruel irony that many scenarios could have been avoided if the people involved just TALKED to each other. Sadly, from a writing standpoint, this germ of idea (that 2 people who DO talk to each other can STILL suffer from problems that lead to divorce) wasn't fully realized, because to pull it off professionally, you would have needed AMAZING dialogue. THAT would have been something to read, yet instead, the rushed descriptive narration seemed avoid meaningful exchanges of dialogue on purpose! I have no problems with the direction you tried to take this story in, but in the final evaluation, it could have been better. Other commenters mention the lack of character development, and I agree. You wanted to give us two different kind of people than the reader would usually find in the typical LW story, yet gloss over major factors in their personalities that would allow us to get to know them. We find ourselves looking at a few quirks, and no real depth, and that leaves a general impression that (especially him) they would be characterized as "annoying", or "unlikable". You use a casual sentence to say he turned on the charm, but don't SHOW it with his actions. What, when he comforted the other cheated upon spouse? Every thing he said to her seemed shallow and fake (i.e. telling her what he thought she wanted to hear in order to get laid) instead of a sincere expression of how he feels. Then AFTER the discovery, and revenge, we are TOLD things have improved, but it doesn't seem that there is ever a recommitment to Tanya with the good communication the relationship was built on. Oh yes, that's right, it wasn't about talking or communicating, it was about "being chatty"; it was NEVER about love, it was only "great sex". I am afraid that meat of your story never achieves chargrilled perfection, merely just a rubbery microwaved reheat! 2.5 rounded up to 3 stars. Because I do APPRECIATE and thank you for the effort! (keep working on that DIALOGUE!)
People with antisocial personality disorder (commonly called sociopathy) tend to approach their relationships with an emphasis on control and power. They have a greater tendency towards narcissistic personality disorder than the general public, as well. People who exhibit both these conditions often feel an a sense of shame towards their own behaviors but expect respect from others. They also place an extreme emphasis on sex within their relationships, and acknowledge feelings of pleasure in response to harm caused by their actions. These are all behaviors exhibited by this character on one level or another.
I liked that the main character admitted that he didn't "love" his wife but really liked her and really liked fucking her! He did however love his kids! I think this is one of the most honest expressions about marriage I have ever read. Most of the guys I talk to are not "in love" with their wives after years of living with women complaining and trying to change them. For the most part though they do love their kids and would do anything for them. There is a reason why the term bitch is so prevalent in our vocabulary, and while some may actually love their bitch, it certainly is no bed of roses listening to their shit day in, day out.

Great story , strange ending , when the Daughter turns 18he will move on!
Loved the story till the ending, living , loving , and using your ex wife after a mistake only to say when his daughter turns 18 he well move on. Now that is pretty sick if you ask me. The divorce and living together same as husband and wife, she straighten out after the affair, he is using her and slept around also after the fact only to say after Tanya said they should marry after so many more years together, makes him one self center sun of a bitch. Your relationship is working your getting more than the rest of us ever get . Yet you are willing to dump her again. Strange to have such a thought.
NOT great story! I thought it was very cute, the way Hapless avoided a very TOUGH task ... explaining WHY Sweetie was cheating on a guy who was hauling her ashes in a very energetic and frequent way! And with whom she shared their OTHER favorite activity ... endless chatting! Was it simply Sweetie's higher sex-drive, or that she found ANOTHER chat-mate who was also a good fuck - with better fiscal resources! We'll never know, because Hubby never wants to hear about it!
Interesting resolution! Cohabit with Ex-Sweetie for the kids' sake AND your libido, but both retain Dating-Others privileges (with prior announcement and under safe-sex conditions!)
Some of the former commenters didn't read carefully, the comments stated that Jim would leave Tanya when Susan reaches the age of 18. However, the story states - "Jim. You can have no doubt that I love you with all my heart; but by the time that Susan turns eighteen if you haven't asked me to marry you again, we're splitting up."
It's actually Tanya making the announcement, and it isn't definitive. It's contingent on whether Jim asks her to re-marry. There's not enough information in the story to make a conclusive diagnosis of Jim being a sociopath, although he could be. I can't fault a few typos and editing errors here and there, with this story or any other. These stories are free, and I appreciate the efforts of the amateur authors. Some find a story like this to be unbelievable, but in reality, this isn't at all unbelievable. If counselors, family law attorneys, psych doctors, even motel management people - were to submit examples of real people and real case studies in story form, some of the actual cases would make the more extreme stories in LW section look rather mundane. In fact, there have been a few stories that make me wonder if they are based on actual cases.

Disagree
If he doesn't love her, he should divorce. In fact, he should never have married. It is incorrect to call this a marriage. It's just enemies with benefits. How many more years will he waste?
Two dimensional - the women are gorgeous and great fucks, the men are barely present, the narrator is a sociopath - he'll use his ex-wife for sex (and her income, now that she has a job) and dump her when it's convenient Two stars
The lead character is a sociopath but so what? More proof of the fact was his disinterest in marrying Sally. There was no way he could dominate her...
Still it was fascinating bit of story telling.
I personally felt the story was great interlaced with tongue-in-cheek dry humour. I liked it. It was refreshing from other LW stories and the continual revenge-based scenarios. This guy knew his shortcomings and made the most of what was really a painful situation for most of us. Well done!

I hope the narcissistic sociopath gets hit by a train next time he leaves the house. This guy is the kind of person that everybody wants to watch crash and burn. I'll just say that if you identify with or are anything like the husband in this story then you might wanna watch your back for.... I don't know.....the rest of your life. I can almost 100% guarantee their are several people who would like to watch you die a very painful death!
Most of the comments I expected and are the conventional mix about how the story appeals to someone, or how it doesn't; everyone has a different view point and different baggage that they carry. What has surprised me is that no one has commented about Sally. While obviously she was not talked about as much as Jim and Tanya, she had a hard time, and I hoped that some would consider her a sympathetic creature.
I'm also surprised that no one has seen fit to comment on Sally's version of revenge.
In case you're wondering I had no desire to make Jim a sympathetic character -- but he is more real than most of you are willing to believe (or admit).
I liked this story - found it to be clever and entertaining
I kind of suspected where it was going to go, but was not sure. BTW I did like ths Sally character and the perp was a huge fool to cheat on her. She was a well-written and interesting character and more credible than the wife. I looked on this story as being of high entertainment value and was not disappointed.

This story wasn't sexy at all (and this a sex site w/ a non-erotic section, so I think that's a valid criticism.)
Still there was something fascinating about it. The husband was a very well-developed character in my opinion. I have no idea why people feel sorry for Tanya. She brought it on herself and Jim was quite straight w/ her. Five stars for being one of the more original stories I've read on here, but belonged in the non-erotic section.
The similar stories: Cpete's "Blood from a Turnip", lucsmith's "Let the Punishment Fit the Crime". Yes the husband character is not a 100% good guy, but he was faithful during his marriage, SO HIS VERY UNUSUAL REVENGE is right. I like the mutuality answers, so I like this story. Sally was a broken soul, If I had written the story, I would have written some connection between Sally (E-mail-mobile) and I would have written a Second Chance man for Sally in the story epilog.........
Sally isn't sympathetic as a character bc she barely there, pretty one dimensional.Jim is basically unemotional,he might love his kids but didn't love Tanya,he basically treated her the same way before and after the divorce, like a fuck buddy. The big problem, with the story is why would Tanya cheat with a dude who treated her the same way?I could see her finding someone else for emotional solace, but she basically cheated with hubby,a motormouth fuck buddy, makes no sense.
Jim is no hero, his revenge is nothing more than continuing to use Tanya.More importantly,if he thinks what he has done won't hurt the kids,he is in la la land, they will pick up the lack of love, and will end up like him,a cold, unemotional person unable to feel or express love. It would be interesting to hear what the shrink had to say,but I am sure it would be Tanya couldn't control hersel around motormouths or some such drivel.

i have a thought
If they stay as a couple and cohabit all those years in most states they will be considered married anyway. since they already spilt there assets , how will they split the next 10 years???/
He handled her infidelity well. They were both responsible for their children and took care of them. His final statement ' I have ten more years of great sex and good companionship' implies he may split with her later, but what would be the point of that? They must by then have lived together for 20 years and had a satisfactory relationship. Even the divorce was very amicable. To start over again he would have to find a compatible woman with less baggage than Tanya. Unless she cheats again, why would he bother?

Interesting, but implausible story
I'm not sure why he went through all the co-habitation baloney if he wasn't going to forgive her, marry her and live out his life with her. In terms of what happened, it is, of course, your prerogative as an author to write your story. The reality was that Sally probably was arrested for assault and either did some time in jail or paid some big damage claims to her husband and to Tanya. In their divorce, given that the Courts always favor the wife/mother, Jim lost custody, had to move out of the house, paid alimony and child support and got to see his kids every other weekend. The Courts don't give a tinkers damn about infidelity. He lost. But it was an entertaining read. Keep after it.
Stacy Keach, who played Mike Hammer, would have beaten the crap out both Jim and Tanya, solved a murder, and called it a day.

What makes this story different...
The protagonist did not love his wife, and only married her because of the ultimatum. Now he has what he wanted in the first place.
She has issued another ultimatum, though post-dated ten years in the future. He does not plan to give in a second time, though that remains to be seen.
***** Very original. The writing skills imhappless are superb. The story was funny, not to be taken too seriously by design. How many people would get married to someone they don't love? How many people respond to ultimatum proposals? Who would not like to know the reason why she would cheat?
The story was written for the fun and enjoyment for all of us LW enthusiast. So enjoy without too much over thinking and critical dissection like I just made.
Quite an unusual tale. Obviously Jim never loved Tanya or he wouldn't have been able to maintain their unique relationship. You have a great imagination and this tale, although preposterous strangely works. Great job. Five stars.
I think this story would have been better with more dialogue and less narrative. For a chatty person, Tanya says little in this story; same for Jim. We don't have a clue what type of job Jim has. We do know he has flexible time at work such that he can follow his wife whenever he wishes. We don't know why Tanya would cheat, since she got tons of sex at home, and her lover was not particularly committed to her in the emotional sense.
I did not understand the "evidence" that made Jim suspicious of Tanya's behavior that indicated she was cheating. Most smart phones don't need apps installed to track them -- for example, iPhones all come with "find my phone" apps, and I believe Android phones have something similar. But just tracking someone doesn't prove infidelity, even if they go to the same place each day, or spend an extra hour out on Mondays and Wednesdays. Of course, observing touchy-feely behavior proves something, but up to that point, I was not convinced.
I agree with Anon that in the real world, Sally would have been charged with assault, and Tanya would have received the house, custody of the kids, and a percentage of Jim's income. And Jim would have been left with nothing, certainly not the control he seemed to have at the end. Oh, and the lengthy narrative makes the story less erotic. Three stars.
Interesting twist. I know he don't want to talk about her cheating but I'm always curious as to the why they cheated and why they think it's OK.

Different than most no psycho revenge which is refreshing. Are there states that aren't no fault states? (Cheating doesn't matter in no fault states when it comes to divorce)
A little odd for my tastes. Thanks for the offering.

Different but good.
When she made her final ultimatum I would have packed up all her shit and sent her back to the guest room. She is damn lucky he kept her around in the first place. And yes, I know he s still a jerk but he did nothing wrong, she did. He made no bones about it, he never did really "love" her.
Good Read

my fucking cunt of a cheating first wife
Jude and I married way to young 19 and 17, I worked nights, she was a really hot fuck, probable the best .I ever had. She started fucking on me in the first 3 months of marriage, I soon was fucking 3 married women from the chain plant where I worked. One night after work she tried to fuck me but did not want me to eat her, She tried to give me BJ but I forced her leg open ate her really full snatch before I realized I was eating some ones big load of cum. I remained compsed and had a real long great fuck. I told one of the girls I was screwing about it, Peggy just kept fucking me every opportunity we had and kept her friends on my dick as well. I was afraid of getting caught and losing my job. My sex life with Jude slowed way down, I never fucked her again if her snatch seem to be ful of cum again. We divorced after she said she wanted to fuck everybody and stay married to me. I was very jealous, so it was over, I fucked her little sister during the separation and had I fucked her mother once before after a drunken Halloween party. Jude thought she was my first just because I could not tell tell if Had cum in her or not the first time I screwed her. I never told her my mom took my cherry when I was 12. My mom had made me a god dam sex addict. I never got over that, Jude cut me off two weeks before were were married to make our honeymoon at the beach wonderful, it was a god damn disaster. I to this day hate that truly hateful fucking spiteful cunt. that fucking woman has been through two husbands since, on her 4th and I was told more than a few gang bangs. My mom keep me fucked down through my dry periods before and during our brief marriage. My dad seemed to just ignore mom screwing around, with our cook, the gardner and friends from our church.
Even though I remember Jude as being the best fuck I ever had it just was not worth the god dam aggravation. Just reading cuckold wimp stories set me off. Dump the bitch or shoot the both of them, try not to get caught and never look back.. at my age I just don't give a shit anymore. My 2nd wife and I have been married 51 years, retired very young and have more money than we can reasonably spend, save a lot of money every month, travel the world and own a shit load of sports cars, 2 motorhomes and a few proprties.
Life is too short, do not waste it with a god dam cunt dragging you down. Had I stayed with Jude I would have stayed broke, never been able to retire and had several STDs.
Wwwweeeeelllllllllllllllllll........
It was a bit different.
Chuckle.

Two dimensional - the women are gorgeous and great fucks, the men are barely present, the narrator is a sociopath - he'll use his ex-wife for sex (and her income, now that she has a job) and dump her when it's convenient Two stars
Enjoyed it
The lead character is a sociopath but so what? More proof of the fact was his disinterest in marrying Sally. There was no way he could dominate her...
Still it was fascinating bit of story telling.
Great Story
Comment from the author
Most of the comments I expected and are the conventional mix about how the story appeals to someone, or how it doesn't; everyone has a different view point and different baggage that they carry. What has surprised me is that no one has commented about Sally. While obviously she was not talked about as much as Jim and Tanya, she had a hard time, and I hoped that some would consider her a sympathetic creature.
I'm also surprised that no one has seen fit to comment on Sally's version of revenge.
In case you're wondering I had no desire to make Jim a sympathetic character -- but he is more real than most of you are willing to believe (or admit).
But then again, i m hapless!
Quite enjoyed it...
...though that's likely because I can relate to Jim a little too well.

Only this
@Anon Do not read Revenge Stories! 5*****
Good story
The similar stories: Cpete's "Blood from a Turnip", lucsmith's "Let the Punishment Fit the Crime". Yes the husband character is not a 100% good guy, but he was faithful during his marriage, SO HIS VERY UNUSUAL REVENGE is right. I like the mutuality answers, so I like this story. Sally was a broken soul, If I had written the story, I would have written some connection between Sally (E-mail-mobile) and I would have written a Second Chance man for Sally in the story epilog.........
Jim was selfish in his own way just like Tanya.
I would like to know what led Tanya to cheat.
Missimg a lot
If they stay as a couple and cohabit all those years in most states they will be considered married anyway. since they already spilt there assets , how will they split the next 10 years???/
I liked it
He handled her infidelity well.
That was weird. But in a good 5* read
kind of a way!
You got it wrong!
Interesting that you present him to have a moral element ...
then you totally eradicate it with his treatment of Marsha.
Fun Read****
Thanks for sharing.
A very good but different read.
Strange
Quite an unusual tale. Obviously Jim never loved Tanya or he wouldn't have been able to maintain their unique relationship. You have a great imagination and this tale, although preposterous strangely works. Great job. Five stars.
Mixed feelings about this
I think this story would have been better with more dialogue and less narrative.
Interesting
Interesting twist. I know he don't want to talk about her cheating but I'm always curious as to the why they cheated and why they think it's OK.
Solid
Different than most no psycho revenge which is refreshing. Are there states that aren't no fault states? (Cheating doesn't matter in no fault states when it comes to divorce)
Liked it
A little odd for my tastes.
Good Read
Sorry, NO pussy is better than your self respect.
Idiot.
It is the relationship that makes the pussy good, not the pussy that makes the relationship good.
'nuff said.
my fucking cunt of a cheating first wife
