I usually don't like these stories

the ones where no one is a good guy, but the t he twist at the end took me completely by surprise. First time that has happened, so props to you.

At least the wellspring of "forgiveness" makes sense, but you kind of turned your genuinely nice guy into a monster dickhead who not only neglected his wife, but impregnated his brothers.

The Twist in the Tail

A well written though seemingly standard tale with a tail that brought an apppreciative smile to this reader.

Illogical Story

6' 4" Frank is jealous of his shorter older brother Court! Frank's wife is tall and beautifully and Court's wife is short and mousy! After the super bowl Court goes to sleep and his wife Nancy calls Frank over to talk. Why would she call Frank? Wouldn't she call Ava to talk? This story is illogical!

God, I Dislike These People

To string us along like that, always wondering: What the fuck is wrong with this guy? You get the feeling he is going to play some cards, but it's really irritating when the lynch pin in the plot is more like a sneak attack, like a cheap trick. I don't appreciate this type of thing.

On the other hand, despite the action being well paced, in the back story, the jaunty attitude of the protagonist got to be hackneyed and tiresome. He's a womanizer, he gets what he wants, he does this, he does that, he stakes out his future wife like a caveman or something. That went a bit overboard. He became unlikeable.

I don't understand why he let's his wife off so easy. He doesn't want to upset his girls. Maybe he is just a bastard and doesn't give a shit. He has no self-respect and never trusted his wife anyway. That would make as much sense as anything in this story.

The best thing about this story, and in fact the one thing that acts as a redeeming factor is that he really does love his girls. So it adds depth and substance to his actions. That was well played by the author. But I can't relate to him very much at all. After all, he is another federal agent backstabbing creep for the bloated and criminal US beaurocracy.

First, there's the thing about anonymous comments. They're almost always interesting, and this one was, but I can never tell if a response I post here ever gets read by them.

Second, I agree the characters weren't the nicest people, but the remark about the bloated criminal government leaves a problem. After all the years I've worked I'd have to say the people who most vehemently assert the corruptness of our government are those who are the most regulated. By that I mean the really rich. I am of the belief that since the 1980's we've been handed a bill of goods. In my opinion it started with Reagan, and it's kept getting more vitriolic. No one likes regulation or intrusive government, but I know nearly all the regulations we bitch about protect us from those who would benefit most from a non-regulated economy. I mean if Goldman Sachs and their ilk had been really regulated we wouldn't have had 2007 and the last decade of suffering and in fact a well regulated economy would have prevented the Savings and Loan scandal of 1989 and most likely saved us the loss of 5 trillion dollars when the Dotcoms crashed. But what do I know; one of my daughters has me shoveling her horse's shit, and I don't even like horses. Last, if you read this and disagree, please don't take it out on my stupid stories. They're just for my practice and for your entertainment.

P.S. The long story I'm working on has a guy shoveling horse shit.

I liked it he was thinking of others welfare and looking at the big picture which people seldom do. Its interesting how many comments like to knock a guy for behaving with consideration and compassion with THOSE HE IS SUPPOSED TO DO THAT FOR. I mean what's that all about??? Have people become so selfish now days that if a spouse does something wrong the only option is to kick them to the curb???
I'm divorced but not because of cheating and I didn't get to see my son grow up after he turned 3 and a half. he is 21 now and never tries to talk to me. I wish it wasn't that way but he and his mother live on the other side of the world to me so the 12 thousand kilometers was the main reason for that. I like to think if people have a chance to repair relationships and make amends they should give it their best shot before pulling the plug.

Court - "I know. I know. Angela's only six. If she ever has a crisis, needs an organ. I don't know; I hope that never happens."
Ava - "Court we made a mistake, but it's been seven years. You don't think..."
Court - "No I don't think anyone will ever know. I know I care about you. I love my brother. I love my wife. I love my three kids, and I love Angela. Let's just hope and pray it stays hidden."

So this makes the whole story irrelevant.

Great Ending!

Good twist. He was way to quick to forgive them. Little did they know! Your ending made me laugh!

Court Should Have Died!

So he was punishing his Little Birdie and his brother Frank for the very thing he and Ava were guilty of. Now if Nancy and Frank had known about Court being Angela's father, perhaps they could have postponed calling the paramedics a few hours; or, at least, until the bastard Court had died of natural causes. Someday Nancy and Frank will find out about Angela. Then there will be another story to tell.

Frank turned out to be a lot more like his brother than he knew. It was an interesting story with low emotional content. A lot of people go through life this way, not much love, just a lot of narcissism. It would be nice if they'd simply disappear.
