This story confuses me. It wants to be hot and emotive yet the writer lapses repeatedly into past tense, uses intimacy with people that are not essential and glazes over essential description with the protagonists and claims that he and Cat are not extremists but describes both characters in labels as emo twink and androgyn. If they are not freaks then why are they cruising for freaks? And if they seek intimacy as both claim, why are they so casual? Perhaps they don't know themselves as well as they think they do or the writer's perspective is lost.
I see much potential in this story for heat and depth and I look forward to reading more. Take your time. There is definite chemistry between Cat and Merit. I wonder if they will abandon hedonism for romance or will they embrace their inner freak and remain the same? I find Cat charming and practical and Merit naive and submissive. This story surprisingly reminds me of Jane Austin's Northanger Abbey. Who agrees?
