1 + 1 = 1
The two separate chapters (so far?) add up to one interesting story. Some of your sentence construction, particularly in Chapter One, seemed a bit stiff and clumsy but not so much as to ruin the story. I'd consider going on a retreat myself but with my luck I'd end up in a Trappist monastery.
