You sing to me a song of woe
Telling me it's your time to go.
How can I bear the constant pain
Of this hauntingly familiar refrain?

You promised nothing and gave even less
But, I wanted it all, I must confess.
The only thing that's left is me
Here to suffer endlessly.

Remembering the times we laughed and cheered
And cried and talked and persevered.
Remembering too, the cheating and lies
Holding on until the melody’s rise.

You left me here without a trace
Of hope, of dignity, of love's embrace.
You said you needed to move on
While the lyrics around me continue to moan.

I hear this tune of passion gone by.
It left me alone with no reply.
No more tears for a song so sad
Just this awful need for a love gone bad.
