All Roads Lead To…

It’s said that we all have a path,
A road we’re destined to follow.
The plans were laid out long before our conception,
And no one gave thought to our own desires.

So, we travel along this road out of obligation,
Even though it might not be right for us.
We ignore the more enticing paths,
Acting out of self preservation.

What would happen, though, if we defied our path?
What if we chose to give in to our desires?

Changing our destinies would have a cost, though.

Would the course of human events be altered?
Would the cost be too much to bear?

Or, are we just too frightened to tempt fate?

Perhaps the truth lies somewhere we don’t want to go,
Somewhere where taking risks is the norm and consequences have no meaning.
But that place is a farce, for consequences are real,
Risks have the possibility of negative outcomes.

In reality, we tend to choose what’s safe,
Never wanting to risk any emotional pain.
And that choice hurts us more than we know,
Simply because it limits us.

So what to do now?
Continue to live in our self-made prisons,
Or take that step of faith?
Ultimately, that choice is ours.

Two forks in the road ~ the path not taken can lead to disaster.

~~

Ultimately, seems a rhetorical question

As most folks lives run on automatic,

Like a ball in a pin-ball machine,

Reacting to outside forces.
