in toronto i met
a cute young oriental girl
that was from the china district
while at a night club.
she hadn't lived here
for very long -
four months to be exact,
yet her english seemed remarkable,
though coming from taiwan.
she wanted to know if i lived in the city.
i told her i was from erie pennsylvania
and staying at a hotel.
i could tell she hadn't any idea
as to where that was,
so, i simplified my response,
and told here i was from america.
her eyes lit up -
reached for my hand
and tenderly caressed it.
it was enough to make me realize
that being an american
was actually worth it for once!!
Loved the sweetness and tenderness ~ and yes the honesty of this rendering. Top Notch.
welcome back Don...It's good to see you around again.
Personally, I love Canada... apparently, so do you. Sabina
Another's back from a little sabbatical,
Welcome back and stay awhile;
Next time if you really travel,
Try it out of the hemisphere;
Except for isolated exceptions
You'll find even warmer receptions!
Lovely poem, loved the way your words flowed.
Great to have you back
I have heard a few comments of some who are not proud to be an american right now, I do not see it, I in fact think that we as Americans have a responsability not to burry our heads in the sand like other countries, we took the bull by the horns at 911 and kept the war off our soil. It was obvious we were drawn into one.
as for the poem <grin...well that was where my mind drifted, I lived in Central America for many years and they too think highly of Americans, Taiwan girl in Canada? did she play with your 'inter-pol' <grin,,,nice write of thought generating words.
