She paces about the house
tracing a pattern in the worn rugs.
Head down, lips moving
unaware of all going on around her
an occasional laugh interrupting
her lumbering gait.
On bad days
she pleads to Jesus for help
cries and shouts unbridled
her tormentor having inflicted
the desired combination
of pathos and pain.
Twice a day
against her will
she washes down salvation
for now keeping the demons at bay
and her soul intact.
