I lie awake beside you quietly watching as you sleep.
My gaze shifts to your hair and the way it softly falls across your forehead.
Ever so gently I reach out to touch it.
You stir only slightly as you readjust your body on the bed.

I look at your face, so innocent as you lie there in your peaceful slumber.
You look so much younger than your thirty years.
In sleep, your face has taken on a child-like quality, so untouched by all the stresses of adulthood and responsibilities.
Right at that moment you are as a child.

Your chest slowly rises and falls in a hypnotic rhythm.
The only sound in the room is the steady sound of your breathing.

As I watch you thoughts of times we’ve shared fills my mind.
I smile to myself as my mind replays a memory where you’ve made me laugh.
Some silly thing you’ve done or said.
Oh how you can make me laugh!

You light my soul with your sense of humor and your willingness to just be you.
No matter who’s watching or what they may think, you throw your head back and laugh from within, such a deep, joyful laugh.

You are a man with such passion for life.
Looking beyond the outward coverings and into my very soul.
You know the me others never have opportunity to see.
Knowing my weaknesses and vulnerabilities, still you make me feel its okay to posses these qualities that I deem as flaws of character

My heart is filled with emotion as I look at your beautiful form lying next to me.
I reach over and softly lay my hand on your chest.
You turn facing me, gently gathering me up close to you.
It’s late.
I tenderly lay my head near your chest as you cradle me in your arms.
I lightly place a tender kiss on your skin as I drift off to sleep next to you.
