It was something fragile
that I tiptoed across
and if the wind had blown
one way or the other
I might have lost it
but as it was
the whisper hung in the air
and we breathed in
private battles
and sordid struggles
amiss gentle nods
knowing, as we were,
where we’d been
and the breaths between us
entwined secrets
swallowed down inside
each other to stay
forever felt
in a gentle nudge
your unfathomable acceptance
will unquestionably be
the loveliest part
of me
