A pretty bauble bought on the whim of want
Just another piece of a collection hidden away on a shelf
The promise to be loved and cherished
Forgotten as life moves on at a steady pace
Here I sit behind the wall of glass
Of the locked cabinet purchased to protect
The collection that grows slowly through time
Each piece blending into just a presentation of stuff
Like a small statuette without a heart
Frozen in some pose that once brought a smile
Hoping beyond hope that one day
You might remember why you picked me up to begin with
The only thing I feel anymore
Are the tears frozen behind unblinking eyes
That stare out helplessly from the place where I was put
Suspended in time while life goes on around me
Don’t you see me beating on these glass walls
Begging to be freed from this prison where time stands still?
Don’t you hear my desperate screams
Reverberating across the spaces that keep me from you?
I try to go on like I never had this buried hope
Waiting quietly, like my world is half asleep
Praying that one day these walls will shatter
Even if it means I am vulnerable to be broken again
