Finding a Place to Belong
She watched as each new person passed her by,
Her family, though strangers in her eyes.
She felt their presence, but not their love,
Her lonely emptiness inside.

He watched from afar, his heart calling her name,
He knew each nuance of her heart, it called to him.

She turned then to meet his stare,
She felt him, held him, called him to her heart.
This man, the only one who’s truth she sought,
The one responsible for her being here.

Their eyes met for a brief moment and he knew,
She’d called him to come and rescue her.
He made his quickly cross the floor,
His arms closing tightly round her.

They all watched as they embraced,
Their eyes were filled with longing.
They wished that they could share their closeness,
Or understand they meaning of their love.

As he held her close within his arms,
For the first time in hours she felt safe.

They clung together in their love embrace,
Soft whispers passed between them,
That others did not understand,
Actions speaking things, words never could.

Together they create a place of warmth,
To protect them from that, which, would cause them pain.
A sanctuary from the harshness of the cold hard would,
Inside their hearts and soul for those they love.

Never before had either felt they had a place for love,
Until her heart met his through time and space,
They brought their children forward and enclosed them in their love,
Completing the circle of life’s greatest task.

Though others tried to duplicate what they worked so hard to make,
All efforts a pale comparison at best.
For these two souls were forged from stronger things than steel,
And nothing man-made would ever come as close.
