Birds fly through the wind
And scatter little bits of life and love,
How I wish that I could fly
As words on the highest heights above,
With you my friend.

Night grows bright with lightening stars,
Dancing in the sky above.
Thunder rolls with inspiration,
I stand alone with love.
For you my friend.

Can you see the bright lights?
Can you watch the years go by?
I am here to guide you
Through the cold and dark and lonely nights.

Many times I’ve sat and wondered why
I cannot reach your side,
Puzzled by this demonstration,
Love my love for you,
Oh I cried.
For you my friend.

While I lit my cigarette, I thought of all the lonely days
When I could not have you near.
I pass the time away,
Oh I cried.
For you my friend.

Can you see the bright lights?
Can you watch the years go by?
I am here to guide you
Through the cold and dark and lonely nights.

I am so much younger now,
Magnolia blossoms curl to die.
Puzzled by life’s transformation,
I can see it in your eyes.
Just you my friend.

Tangled web of evening,
Morning, afternoon, and into night.
How I miss your sweet caress,
It makes a hurried thing seem all right.
With you my friend.

Do you trust the bright light,
That will lead you to my side?
Holding hands in everlasting illuminated night.
With you my friend.

Can you feel the hunger?
I need you here within my reach.
Making love upon the grass
Go barefoot on the sandy beach.
With you my friend.
