On the day you walked into my life heaven smiled down on us
as hell silently pulled open her doors.
We had the magical rays of summer's long sunset to guide us,
walking hand in hand, back through our lives.
Time had stopped to offer his reprieve;
We were free from the past and the future was so far away.
Each day we had together seemed to cover a lifetime,
each minute was enough to fill my senses, overflowing.
The rains came falling to keep us indoors,
talking of a future, that for us would never be.
Cuddling, kissing and caressing your way into my life,
you set my spirit free to soar! Alas, it flew, only to return to me,
and the shadowy grave where your unspoken promises lie burning.
The smile was gone from your lips, though they still sought mine.
The laughter gone from your voice when you called out my name.
The light in your eyes that had once lit my way to your essence had been hidden.
I found myself alone again before you had even gone.
Lost and wandering through the feelings and memories of our time together.
What did I do that made you go away?
What could I do to make you want to stay?
Only asking more questions. You offered no answers.
So I gave up, quietly watching you drift on; listening to your empty words,
and reassurances that we would meet again when the time was right.
I wanted to believe you.
On the day I met she, with whom I shared your attentions
a part deep within me began to die.
The sunrise found someone new looking through my eyes.
Not searching for you anymore, but for the parts of me that you stole.
