Click hereWoke up this morning to a nightmare.
News on the TV was inane and irrelevant.
The only sweet embrace bringing me to life is a cigarette.
The world, it seems, is engaged in war.
It all seems so worthless.
Trading human lives for barrels of oil.
This nightmare grips me tightly.
Food tastes like gunpowder.
Water like blood.
You can only blame those in charge.
The soldier follows orders.
The commander seals his fate.
This nightmare draws me in.
A world where everyone is supposed to conform.
A world where all girls are blonde and dainty.
A world clad in Abercrombie.
A world of utter submission.
A world where personal opinion is null.
This nightmare is killing me.
Its so insane, all this conformity.
So many are unaware they're in this nightmare.
So many act like they dont care.
This isnt a nightmare, this is reality.
The first three stanzas of this work by a new Lit. poet are good and catch the reader's interest.
I find that I expected the last stanza to be stronger and fresher; less easy to anticipate.
You are missing a couple of apostrophes.
Good poem and a great line: The only sweet embrace bringing me to life is a cigarette.
