Where was my heart when first my lips tasted wine?
Distracted perhaps by your smile?
What fateful laugh crossed my soul that day making me a marked man?
Now these many years gone by find me childlike, akin to an idiot in the ways of the world.
Borrowed kisses and satin spread legs that
close when the meter drops.
Interchangeable names spewed into the night
And whiskey soaked cash on tabletops
Breast fed delirium spills out on the floor
And we all know the words to the song
Reach in my pants for a few dollars more
Then come back and help make me strong
Love in cash increments it’s all for sale
And nothing is cheap but it’s still quite a steal
Just tell them your wishes
and they’ll cut you a deal
As life’s imitation replaces what’s real
Where was my soul when first I felt love?
Distracted perhaps by the slight of hand
taking place in my heart.
Rather sad but well put. Regrets after a mis-spent youth?
Tess.
