Lifeline

I awoke from a dream, gasping
surfacing from sleep, sheets of water
from nowhere, grasping for air
resurrected by awareness
as my life floated by I recognized
the details of my delusions

how the over embroidery of life's
everyday concerns, had obscured
the true beauty and strength of the fabric
which lay beneath, held my life together

I saw their faces, heard their laughter
felts their hands and arms as we embraced
the beating of our hearts against each other
watched them wave hello then goodbye

au revoir if we are lucky, as time plays tricks

I put those moments in my pocket
deep where they would not drop out
for I know days will come when their currency
will be all I have to keep me alive
